Job Description

Role Name:Sr Business Systems Analyst
Location: Columbia, SC, 29223; Hybrid : 3 days per week (Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday).
Schedule: 8:30-5:00 - Potential for overtime, off hours and/or weekend work with gained experience in the area 
Contract length: 12 Months (possibly extended after that)

Job Description:
Duties: 
  • Defines customer needs in technical and business contexts. Ensure the proposed technical and business solutions meet the customer's objectives for the work effort. Provide guidance with planning and prioritization of business analysis activities in support of large project and support efforts.
  • 25% Elicit and document user requirements to meet a business objective. Identify and validate requirements and organize the information into a logical document using business analysis models that is understood by the customer and Information Systems.
  • 20% Respond to questions and ensure understanding of why the business solution was chosen. Guide both technical and customer departments in the development of the systems
  • 15% Ensure the accurate deployment of solutions through review of problem logs, assisting with test plans and test matrices, and other analysis activities
  • 15% Validate the business need for solutions to business problems and process improvements.
  • 10% Facilitate the transfer of knowledge about the "big picture" direction of the business units to others who support them.
  • 10% Provide input on the business direction for system changes.
  • 5% Mentor less experienced business systems analysts.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated expertise in the concepts of the supported business unit. Demonstrated knowledge of standard industry practices and procedures for the business unit.
  • Able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, including the ability to express complex technical and business concepts to all management levels, peers, and the business units.
  • Able to influence and negotiate solutions to business problems.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Understands how IT affects an organization and is able to link it to business processes.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills. Able to read and comment on test plans and test matrices, project plans, and scope and design documents.
  • Has a conceptual understanding of project management techniques. Preferred Software and Other Tools: Visio, MS Project or similar software, data mining using DB2, SQL, and/or other tools.
Education:
  • Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or other job related field. or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or other job related degree
  • Degree Equivalency: 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or other job related degree
  • Preferred Licenses and Certificates: Certified Business Analysis Professional (CBAP), HIPAA, LOMA
  • Required Work Experience: 6 years of IT business analysis experience.
Day to Day:
  • In a typical day, a Sr Business Systems Analyst I will spend the majority of their time communicating with stakeholders and project team members via MS Outlook and MS Teams.
  • They will elicit requirements that reflect stakeholder needs and develop acceptance criteria that validates those requirements.
  • They will document this information in Business Requirements documents (BRDs) and Design documents using MS Office products.
  • They will review test plans and matrices for accuracy. They will research project defects and will triage these defects to appropriate team members. 
The Team: Commercial Systems BSA team: 
  • Client have a fairly small team of Business Systems Analysts (14 total). 
  • Most are very experienced analysts who act as SMEs on different aspects of the systems we maintain.
  • Client are analysts for enrollment, eligibility, claims processing, vendor relations, claims settlement, reporting and data analytics.
  • Client's team is very close and shares information freely.
  • Client's team is a laid back group that also loves to work.
  • Each team member sets high expectations for themselves and their projects. 
Job Requirements:
Required Education: 
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Administration, or other job related field. or 4 years of job related work experience or 2 years of job related experience plus an associate’s degree in Computer Science, Business Administration or other job related degree Required Work 

Experience: 6 years of IT business analysis experience. 

Required Technologies:
  • Microsoft products (Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Windows operating systems 
Nice To Have:
  • Data mining tools
  • Microsoft Visio 
Soft Skills: 
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written (to speak with stakeholders, team members and management)
  • Adaptability (to work on projects for different systems)
  • Time management skills (to handle multiple projects on their workload)
  • Ability to elicit meaningful requirements (asking questions to drill down to bottom line needs when the candidate isn’t familiar with the topic, system or stakeholders)
