The Wall Street Journal is seeking a Newsroom Application Developer to join its Storytelling and Visuals team. In this role, you will collaborate with reporters, visual journalists, product, design, and engineering teams to prototype, build, and maintain innovative storytelling formats, newsroom tools, and applications that blend technical expertise with creative rigor.

Qualifications:
- 3–5 years of experience in a media-rich digital environment (newsroom experience a plus)
- Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and back-end languages such as Node.js and PHP
- Hands-on experience with Express.js, React, State Management Frameworks, Webpack, and Gulp
- Strong understanding of cross-device and mobile development
- Familiarity with API and web service development
- Experience with user analytics, testing, and reporting
- Ability to create wireframes and apply UX/UI design principles
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines and in a fast-paced environment
- Willingness to help train reporters and editors in new tools for interactive storytelling
- Self-starter with initiative to learn new technologies and approaches
Responsibilities:
- Develop newsroom tools that enhance The Wall Street Journal’s journalism
- Build digital stories and features that push the boundaries of storytelling
- Collaborate with journalists, editors, product, design, and engineering teams to generate and execute ideas
- Work with analytics teams to gather and analyze project performance data
- Maintain and improve existing editorial tools
- Support graphics projects requiring engineering expertise
