Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Commvault Backup Engineer to lead and support the design, planning, and migration of our backup environment during a major data center transformation. The ideal candidate will be hands-on from day one, with deep technical expertise in Commvault, VMware, NetApp, Pure Storage, networking, and firewall configurations. This role requires someone who can work independently, troubleshoot complex issues, and ensure a seamless migration while decommissioning legacy environments
Responsibilities
Review and validate existing Commvault architecture and storage integrations.
Design backup and restore workflows for new data center setup.
Configure disk libraries, deduplication, and storage policies.
Plan and execute migration of backup workloads from old data center to new environment.
Integrate VMware, NetApp, and Pure Storage with Commvault for optimal performance.
Establish new disk libraries and media agents.
Set up auxiliary copy and replication workflows as needed.
Collaborate with network and security teams to define firewall rules and port requirements for Commvault traffic.
Validate network connectivity between Commvault components and backup targets.
Develop and execute decommissioning plan for legacy Commvault infrastructure.
Ensure proper archival and restore access from retired environments if required.
Provide advanced troubleshooting for backup and restore failures.
Monitor performance and ensure compliance with retention and security policies.
Skills & Experience
Minimum 5+ years of hands-on Commvault administration and design experience.
Proven track record in Commvault migration projects and data center transitions.
Strong working knowledge of VMware backup and restore best practices.
NetApp and Pure Storage integration for backup disk libraries.
Networking fundamentals, firewall rule creation, and port configuration for backup services.
Experience with storage deduplication, replication, and air-gap solutions.
Ability to create and present technical documentation and migration plans.
Strong problem-solving skills with ability to work under tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Commvault Certified Professional/Engineer certification preferred.
Experience with data center consolidation, migration and cloud backup integration.
Familiarity with security hardening and CIS controls for backup environments.
