Position Title: Project Engineer
Contract/Perm: Direct Hire
Location: South Suburb, IL (onsite 5 days per week)


Job Description:
As a Project Engineer, you'll support our construction teams to help plan, coordinate, and deliver road and civil infrastructure projects safely, on time, and within budget. You’ll work closely with project managers and field crews to ensure smooth execution and high-quality results—this is a hands-on, fast-paced role perfect for someone looking to grow in heavy civil construction.

Key Responsibilities:
Field & Construction Support (30%)
•    Help manage daily job site activities, scheduling, and resources
•    Prepare submittals, permits, test schedules, and pre-construction videos
•    Attend project kickoff and customer meetings
•    Coordinate with superintendents to keep jobs on track
Project Management (30%)
•    Assist with project setup, documentation, daily reports, cost tracking, and change orders
•    Review timesheets, quantities, and budgets
•    Communicate updates to stakeholders and maintain accurate project records
Closeout & Job Review (20%)
•    Help wrap up completed projects, reconcile change orders, and prepare close-out packages
•    Participate in post-project reviews to evaluate performance and improvements
Estimating Support – Off-Season/Winter (20%)
•    Perform quantity takeoffs, vendor outreach, site visits, and assist with bid setup
•    Attend pre-bid meetings and support the estimating team during bid reviews and submissions

Must Haves:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field—or equivalent work experience
•    Valid driver’s license
•    OSHA 10 certification (OSHA 30 a plus)
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
•    Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
•    Willingness to work in both office and field environments

Plusses:
•    Internship or experience in heavy highway or civil construction
•    Familiarity with construction software: Bluebeam, XBE, B2W Track, Spectrum, Monday.com
•    Drone license and knowledge of aerial measurements
•    Understanding of DOT specs, safety protocols, and environmental regulations
•    Ability to read and interpret plans and construction documents

Interview Process:
•    Initial Screen: Virtual/phone screen with Ashley (Director of People and Culture).
•    Panel Interview: 1-hour interview with 2-3 members of the hiring team.
•    Final Interview: In-person interview and office tour.
