Duration- 12 months
Shift- Mon-Fri 8 AM - 5 PM (Onsite)

Duration- 12 months
Shift- Mon-Fri 8 AM - 5 PM (Onsite)
- Walks or drives over established route and operates automated meter-reading equipment or manually reads meter and records volume used. May climb ladders to read meters.
- Inspects meters and connections for damage, defects and unauthorised connections. Supplies meter repair and maintenance with the necessary information needed to fix damaged meters.
- Verifies readings if requested to locate abnormal consumption and records reasons for fluctuations. Indicates irregularities and requests action by the service department when necessary.
- Moves water meter lids when they become stuck and overcomes normal physical obstacles when they prevent access to the meters. Cleans out flooded and buried meters.
- Turns service off for non-payment of charges or on for new occupants.
- Operates vehicles and mobile equipment tasks in conjunction with meter reading duties. Washes and cleans vehicles as required. Performs clean-up and housekeeping tasks for the work area, tools and equipment.
- SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES (INTERMITTENT, ON AN OCCASIONAL BASIS, ETC.)
- May assist in other areas as directed.
- Spends 100% of time in operations or outdoor environment under all temperatures and climatic conditions.
- Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Possible Work Hazards:
- May be exposed to possible hazards including traffic, noise, high pressure, hot and cold temperatures, slippery surfaces and water and electrical hazards.
- Frequent exposure to insects, reptiles and animals along a route.
- Amount of time spent – Bending 10%, Walking 70%, standing 5% and sitting 15%.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
- The employee is required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- They may work on ladders, catwalks, and supports at heights of 10 feet above the ground.
- Body movements require working with arms extended above and below the head and from the body up to 10 minutes, while using hand tools weighing up to 10 pounds.
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 - 60 pounds in standing and bending positions and carry while walking distances of 10 feet.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision (for driving) and the ability to adjust focus.
- Must have the ability to read, write and comprehend English (operational, process, safety and quality instructions).
- Ability to perform basic math.
- At least one year of experience in a related position preferred with working knowledge of the standard practices, common tools, materials, occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Must be able to learn automatic meter reading systems and have the ability to safely use trade tools and equipment to inspect, maintain or install meters.
- Must demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment and willingness to assume additional or new responsibilities readily.
- Must have a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
