Job Description:
The Senior GCP Cloud Architect will serve as a subject matter expert and help drive the long-term strategy for the Cloud Platforms team. The ideal candidate will provide technical leadership to our Cloud Center of Excellence, create GCP landing zones, understand cloud costs and FinOps, recommend infrastructure reliability best practices based on established Cloud Infrastructure best practices, and consult with application teams to ensure optimal cloud solutions. This role requires a combination of hands-on engineering and architectural expertise. Prior experience in implementing Google Cloud infrastructure platforms and related certifications such as Google Certified Cloud Architect is required for this position.

Key Duties
  • Act as a subject matter expert and enterprise technology thought leader on GCP Cloud platforms.
  • Provide best practices, automation guidelines and systems engineering principles for Cloud Infrastructure.
  • The role will focus on rolling out the Google Cloud Platform to the enterprise.
  • Engage in hands-on engineering tasks, including the deployment, configuration, and management of Cloud resources.
  • Design and implement innovative solutions for multi-region, highly available and highly automated Cloud environments to support full software development life cycle and production of mission-critical applications
  • Serve as the point of escalation for other application administrators in the event of severe or critical issues impacting production operations.
  • Utilize Terraform for infrastructure as code (IaC) to automate and manage cloud infrastructure. Extensive experience in Terraform is required, along with experience in CI/CD and using Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Develop and execute FinOps strategies to optimize cloud costs and enhance financial accountability.
  • Focused on continuous improvement in system reliability through automation and monitoring.
  • Lead the rollout of cross divisional enterprise infrastructure projects related to GCP.
  • A Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior architects and engineers.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for cloud architecture and best practices.
 
Required Skills:
  • Extensive experience (7 years minimum) in GCP infrastructure architecture and software engineering.
  • Proven experience working as a Senior GCP Architect or similar role.
 
Experience in all the following:
  • GCP certification such as Cloud Engineer and/or Cloud Architect
  • GCP core infrastructure including networking, security, identity, and data Load Balancing, DNS, Interconnect, CDN, Compute, Storage, DR, Security, and Monitoring
  • Architecting, designing, and implementing plans for deploying complex application workloads on GCP data products such as Big Query
  • Knowledge of Security, Identity and Access Management (IAM), Key Management, Access Controls and Security Protocols, Network routing, Firewalls, ACL's, cloud IaaS components on GCP
  • Expert knowledge and experience in Infrastructure as Code such as Terraform and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and driving a continuous improvement culture within Cloud Center of Excellence team and its partners.
  • Proven experience in implementing cloud security best practices
  • Experience with Docker, Containers and Kubernetes
  • Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.
  • Demonstrated expert level experience in leading Enterprise-wide cloud initiatives
  • Demonstrated experience in cloud cost management and FinOps including creating automated solutions to help manage costs.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross functional teams to understand objectives, gather automation requirements, write technical specifications, and perform in a lead role.
  • Experience in Agile (Scrum) or Kanban development methodologies
  • Experience in establishing a continuous improvement plan for Cloud Operations including troubleshooting outages, performing root cause analysis, and executing continual service improvements
 
Preferred
  • Experience working in Azure, in addition to GCP
