Job Summary
We are seeking a Transportation Technician III (TMC Tech III) to join a Traffic Management Center (TMC) team. This advanced-level position is responsible for monitoring traffic conditions through CCTV cameras and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), managing traffic incidents, and dispatching emergency responders to help ensure the safe and efficient movement of traffic. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, works well in a fast-paced environment, and can effectively coordinate with multiple agencies.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor highways and roadways using CCTV cameras and traffic detection systems.
- Manage scheduled and unscheduled traffic incidents using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
- Dispatch appropriate responders during roadway incidents.
- Operate computer-based traffic management systems with minimal supervision.
- Monitor traffic control devices and associated computer equipment.
- Maintain working knowledge of traffic management software and equipment.
- Learn roadway layouts, traffic devices, and regional transportation infrastructure.
- Coordinate with law enforcement, emergency responders, and other agencies during traffic events.
- Escalate complex issues to supervisors when necessary.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a collaborative team environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Experience using Microsoft Office and Microsoft Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications
- Customer service experience.
- Dispatch, emergency communications, or call center experience.
- Experience working in a fast-paced operations or monitoring environment.
- Ability to multitask and make decisions under pressure.
Work Environment
- Onsite position in a Traffic Management Center (TMC) control room.
- Indoor, technology-driven environment with continuous monitoring of traffic conditions.
- Overnight schedule requiring attention to detail and the ability to respond quickly to incidents.
