Job Title: Director of Clinical Informatics
Location: Hybrid – Onsite is Milwaukee, WI
Duration – Interim Director – 3 months
We are seeking an experienced Interim Director of Clinical Informatics to provide leadership and continuity for a large-scale informatics program spanning 10 hospitals and 100+ clinics. This role will oversee a team of 17 highly skilled clinical informaticists and ensure alignment with organizational priorities during a transitional period.
The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader who has managed enterprise-scale initiatives and large teams, understands clinical workflows, and possesses strong Epic knowledge (advisory level, not hands-on). This person will represent the department in executive-level meetings, provide strategic guidance, and maintain momentum on current initiatives without building new systems from scratch.

Key Responsibilities
- -Manage and support a highly skilled team of 17 informaticists; provide clarity on priorities and ensure projects stay on track.
- -Attend high-level meetings with clinical, operational, and finance leadership; communicate effectively and confidently on behalf of the department.
- -Maintain momentum on current initiatives and ensure decisions consider enterprise-wide impacts and risks.
- -Leverage Epic and clinical informatics knowledge to validate team recommendations and ensure solutions are sound.
- -Partner with clinical and operational leaders to address needs and maintain trust during the interim period.
- -Lead basic or moderately complex projects and activities on a semi-regular basis; conduct analysis of clinical and organizational needs.
- -Identify opportunities for process improvement and make recommendations that lead to measurable enhancements.
- -Ensure information systems policies, procedures, and technologies comply with applicable laws and regulations; participate in policy development.
- -Lead/facilitate workgroups charged with defining design options and making design recommendations; recruit clinicians for workgroups and validate competencies.
- -Prepare and communicate reports for leadership regarding project status, risks, and outcomes.
- -Oversee the design and delivery of training materials to educate users about information technologies.
- -Handle escalations and guide team members through complex challenges without micromanaging.
- -Proven experience leading large-scale initiatives in clinical informatics or health IT (multi-hospital, multi-clinic environment).
- -Experience managing informatics across multiple hospitals or large health systems.
- -Prior leadership experience managing large teams (not just 1–2 people).
- -Strong understanding of Epic systems and clinical workflows—enough to provide guidance and validate recommendations. Hands-on experience earlier in career with Epic implementation or optimization that later evolved into oversight or strategic management of implementations.
- -Ability to think independently and strategically, assess organizational impacts, and communicate effectively with executives.
- -Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to represent the team confidently without intimidation.
- -Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Informatics, Healthcare, or related technology field (Master’s preferred).
- -8+years experience in Clinical Informatics management or leadership role managing teams and enterprise level initiatives.
- -5+ years hands on experience with Epic implementation or optimization
