Job Description

Job Title: Senior Electrical Engineer
Location(s): Tucker, GA / Dalton, GA / Macon, GA (Openings in all 3 locations)
Full-time Permanent / Direct Hire

Job Overview:-

The Senior Electrical Engineer provides advanced technical leadership across electrical testing, predictive and preventive maintenance programs, and major equipment initiatives for power generation facilities operated or contracted by the client.

This role serves as a subject matter expert in electrical power engineering, overseeing major generator outages, supporting new control system implementation, and ensuring compliance with NERC/SERC reliability standards. The position combines hands-on plant support with strategic engineering planning, budgeting oversight, and cross-functional collaboration with plant leadership and Technical Services.

Role Context & Technical Scope:-
  1. Target Industries: Utilities, steel, paper/pulp, heavy manufacturing, petrochemical, data centers, or other large industrial power environments.
  2. Travel: Up to 70% depending on plant support needs, outage schedules, and project activity.
  3. Electrical System / Wattage Requirements:
    1. This role supports large-scale generation assets, including combined cycle plants up to approximately 750 MW total plant output. Candidates should have demonstrated experience working across multiple voltage classes within industrial or utility-scale generation environments, including:
    2. Generation Output: Experience supporting generators in the 12 MW – 30 MW range (including familiarity with combustion turbines and gensets) is applicable and transferable
    3. Medium Voltage Systems (Critical): Strong experience in the 4 kV – 20 kV range, particularly around generator terminals (~13.8 kV / 20 kV typical), switchgear, bus systems, protective relaying, and generator step-up transformers.
    4. Low Voltage Systems (Critical): Hands-on experience with 480V distribution systems and motor control centers (MCCs), including protective coordination and maintenance programs.
    5. High Voltage Exposure (Helpful but Less Critical): Understanding of generator step-up transformers increasing voltage from ~20 kV to transmission-level voltages (up to ~500 kV). Deep 500 kV transmission design expertise is not required, but functional knowledge of interconnection and protection philosophy is beneficial.
Candidates must be comfortable operating across low and medium voltage environments, with a strong understanding of protective relaying, testing, thermography, vibration analysis, and predictive maintenance programs supporting large rotating equipment and generation assets.

Key Responsibilities-
Electrical Engineering Leadership
  • Oversee Electrical Testing and Predictive/Preventive Maintenance Programs across operating generating facilities.
  • Serve as the technical expert on electrical power engineering and maintenance best practices.
  • Plan and coordinate major generator and equipment outages.
  • Lead design, selection, and installation of major new electrical equipment and systems.
Compliance & Reliability
  • Provide engineering support to ensure compliance with NERC Reliability Standards, including evaluation, documentation, evidence generation, and procedure development.
  • Support compliance with SERC requirements and reactive power validation procedures.
  • Assist in development and documentation of plant operating procedures.
Plant & Project Support
  • Review and monitor annual electrical inspections and prepare annual reports.
  • Provide technical, administrative, and business support to Plant Managers and senior plant staff.
  • Support planning, budgeting, performance analysis, and maintenance analysis for generating facilities.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and design memoranda for generation projects in development or under construction.
Operational Support
  • Provide on-site support during forced and planned outages.
  • Participate in 24-hour on-call rotation supporting reliability and operational continuity.
  • Coordinate cross-functionally with Technical Services and plant operations teams.

Requirements:-
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology (BSEE preferred).
  • 10+ years engineering experience in commercial electric power generation or large industrial power environments.
  • Experience with outage planning, budgeting, maintenance analysis, and plant performance evaluation.
  • Strong knowledge of generating plant operations, performance, and economics.
  • Demonstrated experience with low and medium voltage systems (480V – 20kV).
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously while partnering closely with Plant Managers and senior leadership.
  • Valid driver’s license meeting company qualification requirements.

Bonus / Preferred Qualifications:-
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license preferred.
  • Level II Thermographer certification desired.
  • Level II Vibration Analyst certification desired.
  • Experience with control system upgrades and major electrical system modernization.
  • Experience supporting combined cycle or large turbine-based generation facilities.
Education:-
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology required. BSEE strongly preferred.
