1. Must-haves vs. nice-to-have: Must-have: Windchill PLM, Cadence (OrCAD or Allegro — pick one), and MATLAB. These are the highest-frequency tools across mechanical, electrical, and SI/PI workflows. Nice-to-have: Creo, Ansys, Sigrity, QuestaSim, Altium. Breadth matters but depth in the core three is the filter.
2. Role focus: Primarily application administration and engineering user support. Think app packaging, license provisioning, troubleshooting tool integrations, and being the technical bridge between engineering teams and corporate IT. Infrastructure/Linux is secondary — not the core mandate.
3. OS environment: Hybrid — Windows primary for most EDA toolchains, Linux for specific simulation and FPGA workflows. Candidate must be comfortable in both.
4. License management: Important. Fluentd, FlexLM/FlexNet, or equivalent license server administration is expected. No hard preference on platform — FlexNet is most common across Cadence/Ansys/PTC toolchains, so that's the default assumption.
