Location: St. Thomas Midtown/Nashville, TN Assignment Length: 5+ Months Shift: 10p-630a (M-F)
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Responsibilities may be interchangeable across Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS), Medical Technologist, and Clinical Laboratory Scientist roles.
Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria.
Perform routine and complex technical procedures according to departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality.
Make technical decisions related to testing and problem-solving.
Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls.
Report accurate and timely test results to support quality patient care.
Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures.
Identify and replenish testing bench supplies as needed.
Assist with specimen processing when required.
Maintain a safe work environment and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or meet applicable local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements.
2–4 years of clinical laboratory testing experience required.
State Medical Technologist license may be required, depending on the assignment.
ASCP or AMT certification may be preferred or required, depending on the assignment.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Proficient computer skills; familiarity with laboratory information systems is a plus.
Strong attention to detail, communication, and organizational skills.
Must be able to pass a standardized color vision screening.
Flexibility to work overtime or other shifts based on business needs.
Position Requirements – Confirmed
Education / Degree: Open to both Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) – 2-year degree and Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Technologist (MT) – 4-year BS degree candidates.
Certification:ASCP or AMT certification is required. Eligible/registered candidates are not being considered.
Laboratory Specialty: Seeking a Generalist with proficiency across Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis, and Coagulation.
Department:Core Laboratory (Core Lab).
Blood Bank:Not required.
LIS Experience:Cerner experience is preferred.
Color Vision Screening:Required.
