Job Description

Position Title: Quality Control Lab Assistant
Work Location: Knoxville, TN (100% Onsite)
Assignment Duration: 6 months
Work Arrangement: Onsite
Work Schedule: 3rd Shift; Sunday–Thursday; 10:30pm–7:00am


Position Summary:

Assists in the preparation of materials for testing. Aids professional/certified individuals in the performance of various laboratory tests. These duties include, but are not limited to


Key Responsibilities:

  • Receipt and preparation of samples through front-end automation, refrigerated and frozen storage/archive of samples, use of computerized reports in retrieval and reconciliation of samples from archive for additional testing, and preparation of buffer materials.
  • Participates in continuing education.
  • Receives specimens and some supplies. Processes and records information received from collection centers. Handles and tracks donor samples from receipt to final testing.
  • Performs proper disposal of samples into biohazard containers after testing is complete.
  • Follows all safety regulations, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies and rules. Maintains a clean, safe work environment.
  • Operates, maintains and troubleshoots instrumentation within assigned department. Uses company laboratory computerized inventory management system to locate, track and determine testing status of samples. May handle positive samples.
  • Works within current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) guidelines and adheres to all regulatory standards within the Lab.
  • Assists with monitoring of inventory levels for laboratory supplies applicable to assigned department. Notifies supervisor of inventory needs.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned

Qualification & Experience:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Previous lab-related experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of laboratory computerized inventory management systems (implied via duties)
  • Familiarity with cGMP guidelines and EHS safety standards

Working Conditions & Physical Demands:

  • 100% onsite laboratory environment
  • Exposure to biological samples and biohazard materials
  • Strict adherence to PPE and safety protocols required
  • Must follow lab dress code (long pants, closed-toe shoes during tour and work activities)

Additional Information:

  • 1–2 rounds of onsite interviews with lab tour included
  • First round: Hiring Manager (30–45 minutes)
  • Possible second round: Assistant Manager (30–45 minutes)
  • First-day orientation: typically 10–12pm, then return for shift start
  • Must comply with strict laboratory safety and dress code policies
  • Failure to comply may result in disciplinary action up to termination
