Job Description

Position Title: Phlebotomist I

Location: 1251 B Saratoga Ave NE, Washington DC USA 20018
Duration: 1.5 Month
Schedule: Mon-Fri – 7:00 A.M – 4:30 P.M, 8:00 – 5:00, 9:00 – 6:00 and 12:00 – 9:00 P.M (Varies as needed)
2 Saturdays a month 

1 week of Training

Bilingual – Spanish and English
Work Type: Onsite


Position Summary:

The Phlebotomist I will support daily operations within a Patient Service Center (PSC), including blood collection, specimen processing, and patient interaction. This role requires strong foundational phlebotomy skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.


Background / Context:

  • Coverage for a maternity leave at a Patient Service Center
  • Potential for extension or permanent conversion based on performance

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, and processing
  • Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
  • Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly to patients
  • Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles
  • Review and verify physician orders and laboratory requisitions
  • Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens for transport
  • Ensure specimen integrity by following handling and temperature protocols
  • Verify requisitions and labels for accuracy
  • Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
  • Update patient information as needed
  • Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
  • Attend required department trainings
  • Answer phone calls and assist with lab-related inquiries

Qualifications & Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a lab or hospital setting
  • Valid Phlebotomy certification (if required by the state)
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
  • Strong communication and patient interaction skills
  • Ability to perform blood draws independently, including hard sticks

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

  • Standing for most of the shift with a 30-minute lunch break
  • Medium-sized Patient Service Center
  • Team-based environment
