Position Title: Phlebotomist I
Location: 1251 B Saratoga Ave NE, Washington DC USA 20018
Duration: 1.5 Month
Schedule: Mon-Fri – 7:00 A.M – 4:30 P.M, 8:00 – 5:00, 9:00 – 6:00 and 12:00 – 9:00 P.M (Varies as needed)
2 Saturdays a month

Position Summary:
The Phlebotomist I will support daily operations within a Patient Service Center (PSC), including blood collection, specimen processing, and patient interaction. This role requires strong foundational phlebotomy skills and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Background / Context:
- Coverage for a maternity leave at a Patient Service Center
- Potential for extension or permanent conversion based on performance
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws, specimen labeling, centrifugation, and processing
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures
- Explain venipuncture and specimen collection procedures clearly to patients
- Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles
- Review and verify physician orders and laboratory requisitions
- Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens for transport
- Ensure specimen integrity by following handling and temperature protocols
- Verify requisitions and labels for accuracy
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination procedures
- Update patient information as needed
- Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations
- Attend required department trainings
- Answer phone calls and assist with lab-related inquiries
Qualifications & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a lab or hospital setting
- Valid Phlebotomy certification (if required by the state)
- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office)
- Strong communication and patient interaction skills
- Ability to perform blood draws independently, including hard sticks
Work Environment & Physical Demands:
- Standing for most of the shift with a 30-minute lunch break
- Medium-sized Patient Service Center
- Team-based environment
