Job Description

Job Title: Water Treatment Operator / Water Tester
Location: Canby, OR 97013, USA
Duration: 3 months
Schedule: Primarily 6:00 AM – 3:00 PM (subject to variation based on coverage needs across multiple locations)
 
Job Summary:
  • We are seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Water Treatment Operator / Water Tester to support operations across multiple sites. This position is responsible for monitoring, testing, and maintaining water and wastewater treatment systems to ensure compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in water and wastewater treatment, the ability to perform hands-on work in various environmental conditions and be flexible with scheduling to cover vacations and staffing gaps.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Operate and monitor water and wastewater treatment plant equipment including pumps, motors, valves, blowers, and chemical feed systems.
  • Collect water samples and perform routine laboratory testing to ensure water quality standards are met.
  • Monitor charts, gauges, and operating systems; adjust chemical feed rates and calibrate equipment based on testing and analysis.
  • Maintain accurate records of operations, lab results, maintenance, and inspections.
  • Participate in preventive maintenance and assist with repairs and minor adjustments to facility equipment.
  • Respond to and control accidental spills or releases of hazardous materials; perform confined space entries as required.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, regulatory guidelines, and internal protocols.
  • Support site inspections and provide information to regulatory agency representatives.
  • Enter operational data into computer systems and maintain daily logbooks.
  • Perform work in varied environmental conditions, including exposure to extreme heat and outdoor weather.
Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid state driver’s license (OR preferred).
  • Active Water Treatment and Distribution Certificate required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment (preferred).
  • In-depth knowledge of water/wastewater treatment processes and equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to use a variety of tools and machinery.
  • Physically able to lift 10–20 lbs regularly and up to 50 lbs occasionally.
  • Comfortable working in varied physical positions (standing, kneeling, climbing ladders/stairs).
  • Proficiency in observing equipment operation and maintaining accurate records.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively at all levels.
 
Work Environment:
  • Exposure to outdoor environments, including extreme temperatures.
  • Moderate noise levels with occasional exposure to chemicals and hazardous materials.
  • Use of various mechanical and electrical tools required for operational duties.
