Position Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Tax Analyst Consultant with deep expertise in Workday HCM/Payroll and ADP Smart Compliance. The ideal candidate will bring 2–3 years of hands-on Workday tax experience, including strong proficiency in EIB creation, off-cycle input processing, and tax amendments. This role is critical in ensuring payroll tax compliance, performing accurate reconciliations, and supporting clients with prior-year tax issues, process stabilization, and remediation efforts in a fully remote environment.
Required Qualifications:
Proven experience with Workday EIBs, including off-cycle input processing and amendments
Advanced expertise in Microsoft Excel, including Pivot Tables and VLOOKUPs
Strong analytical thinking skills with the ability to independently review reports, identify discrepancies, and determine corrective actions without direction
2–3 years of Workday Payroll/Tax experience
Experience with ADP Smart Compliance
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and reconciliation skills
Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a remote setting
Review and validate payroll tax configurations in Workday, including multi-state and local taxation for remote employees
Monitor legislative updates to ensure timely and accurate tax filings across all jurisdictions
Partner with HR and Accounting teams to validate employee tax setups, including reciprocity agreements and local tax requirements
Tax Analysis & Issue Resolution:
Analyze payroll tax liabilities versus withholdings to identify discrepancies and compliance risks
Investigate payroll calculation errors and tax deduction issues using Workday and ADP reporting tools
Identify root causes of recurring issues such as W-2C corrections, missed local taxes, and jurisdictional inconsistencies
Research & Audit Support:
Conduct research on federal, state, and local tax regulations to support compliance
Audit employee tax configurations and payroll transactions for accuracy and regulatory alignment
Provide documentation and guidance for amended filings and corrective actions
Reconciliation & Reporting:
Reconcile payroll data between Workday, ADP Smart Compliance, and the General Ledger
Validate quarterly and annual tax reports, identifying discrepancies in payments, deposits, and liabilities
Prepare journal entries and reconciliation documentation to support financial accuracy and audit readiness
Prior-Year Review & Notice Resolution:
Review prior-year tax filings and payroll tax notices to identify and resolve outstanding issues
Support preparation of amended W-2Cs and collaborate with vendors on reporting discrepancies
Document findings and recommend process improvements to prevent future errors
Client Support & Process Optimization:
Partner with clients to resolve open tax items, amendments, and backlog notices
Recommend sustainable payroll tax processes, reporting routines, and compliance best practices
Provide training and knowledge transfer to enable client teams to manage payroll tax compliance independently
