Job Title: Support Engineer I (Visual Observer) Job Location: Tolleson, AZ Job Duration: 2 Months ( Extension to possible based on performance and business needs.)
The Visual Observer (VO) will be a part of a team with other VO’s, reporting to the Flight Monitor (FM). The VO is responsible for maintaining visual line of sight with the drone. The VO informs the FM of any obstacles or air traffic aloft or on the ground. A VO should have a clear understanding of conditions that can impact the safety of the flight including but not limited to weather conditions, ground hazards, and airborne hazards. Weather and airspace are a crucial aspect of this role, so the VO should be familiar with proper VO scanning techniques recommended by the FAA. The VO should also be familiar with FAA “right-of-way” rules to see and avoid other traffic. Additionally, the VO will be required to complete initial training conducted by Prime Air instructors and pass a Part 135 Oral and Practical Evaluation conducted by a representative of the FAA.
The Visual Observers will work with the Flight Monitors (FMs) to accomplish our goal of delivering packages to customers via drone in 60-minutes or less.
PREFERRED SKILLS - Experience with commercial UAS industry (Preferably autonomous and large unmanned aircraft) - Aviation safety experience as a Safety Officer or similar - Current manned US fixed-wing or rotorcraft pilot's certificate. - Excellent business communications and reporting skills.
Day in the life- Attend pre-operational brief and end-of-day brief, observe air traffic and ensure there are no obstacles aloft or on the ground that may interfere with the safety of flight, report weather conditions that may be pertinent to the operation, and additional side tasks as necessary.
The Visual Observer role will interact directly with the Flight Monitor (FM).
Work environment will be observing air or ground traffic outside their vehicle in a variety of hot/cold temperatures and weather conditions.

Certifications and Years of Experience Required:
14 CFR Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate required with experience as a visual observer.
Skills:
Hard Skills- sound judgment during flight, excellent communication style and able to prioritize tasks. They may be client facing, interacting with team and potentially the public.
Performance Indicators - Safety, quality, and productivity. Able to report hazardous conditions in a timely manner and communicate under pressure.
Safety is important- say something to the Flight Monitor, Site Lead or Safety Training Officer (STO) if something doesn’t seem right.
