Summary: This Sr Associate Data Architect role supports AML by shaping the data, systems, and technical architecture that enables immersive training solutions for complex manufacturing operations. The position blends immersive training development with data architecture responsibilities, including designing scalable solutions for VR/AR learning experiences, integrating backend systems for tracking and assessment, and ensuring training content is technically accurate, accessible, and aligned to business needs. The role also carries an important leadership component by serving as point of contact between AML and external partners, translating project objectives into actionable scopes of work, coordinating support across internal and third-party contributors, and helping drive the Immersive Simulation Training initiative through strong solution design, communication, and continuous improvement.
Functions:
Design and develop immersive training modules using VR and AR technologies tailored to complex manufacturing processes.
Utilize platforms like Unreal Engine to create realistic and engaging simulations and educational experiences across platforms.
Collaborate with instructional designers and subject matter experts to convert technical training requirements into interactive learning solutionsImplement UI/UX principles in the development of interfaces, ensuring optimal user engagement and learning outcomes.
Conduct rigorousquality assurance testing to ensure functionality, user engagement, and educational impact of all virtual training modulesMaintain and manage databases related to the training modules, ensuring their integration with backend systems for tracking and assessment purposes.
Continuously update and refine training experiences based on user feedback and technological advancements.
Serve as point of contact between Amgen and external parties providing consulting work on programing services, 3D designs, and animationsIdentify items that require consultation from third party service providers and consultants, obtain approval from Amgens management, and coordinate the consultation sessions.
Translate the objectives of the Immersive Simulation Training project into a scope of work for both internal teams and external parties supporting the initiative.
Provide guidance and coaching to Software Analysts or Coop Student(s) assigned to work with immersive simulations at AML
Education/Licenses:
Masters degree ORBachelors degree and 2 years of Video Game Development, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Educational Technology, or a related field experience OR Associates degree and 6 years Video Game Development, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Educational Technology, or a related field experience OR High school diploma / GED and 8 years Video Game Development, Computer Science, Software Engineering, Educational Technology, or a related field experience.
Competencies/Skills:
Strong programming skills in Unreal Engine, Unity 3D, C++, and Visual StudioProven experience in VR/AR development, particularly for head mounted displays (HMDs) like Meta and HTC Vive.
Bilingual:
Fluid communication skills in both Spanish and English.
Solid understanding of interface design and functionality, ideally with experience in video games or simulation interfaces.
Demonstrated ability to comprehend complex processes and create accurate virtual simulationsStrong team player with the capability to initiate and drive projects independently
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with Maya 3D or similar 3D modeling tools.
Background in database management and basic programming with a focus on C++.
Knowledge of quality assurance procedures and standards in a software development environment.
