Job Description

Role: ServiceNow Configuration Management Architect
Location: Chicago, IL - onsite 3 days per week
Duration: 6+ Months
Anchor days: Monday - Wednesday

Project Overview:
  • Covering everything from Disaster Recovery, Bed Rock program in their space which covers additional areas or gaps that have introduced severe incidents or outages
  • Introducing Dev Ops Resiliency Engineering, and everything that falls under disaster recovery: the operations, automation, execution, the planning, and new area which is DR governance
  • Segregation of duties between the governance, the metrics and reporting, to the interfacing with the regulators from the DR execution
  • This role specifically focuses on Enterprise Architecture, implementing new configuration management and integrating existing Ansible with ServiceNow for enhanced infrastructure resiliency
  • Currently minimal infrastructure of code on prem today, aiming for significant automation with phased implementation
  • Implementation and integration of Ansible and introduction of Chef, potentially integrated into ServiceNow
 
Skills and Requirements:
  • Proficiency in YAML, Ruby, and Python for playbook and cookbook development to ensure infrastructure consistency and minimize drift.
  • Service Now expertise is not required, but is nice to have
  • Ansible and Chef experience required
  • YAML required
  • Python required, if they have a strong background can be flexible with Ruby experience
  • Ruby may be required, but can be preferred if they have strong background in Python
  • Hands-on architect with a strong technical background, capable of starting from scratch
  • Preferably experienced in designing and implementing Chef solutions
  • mindset for holistic, big-picture thinking and adaptability to new challenges
 
Responsibilities:
  • Hands-on technical architecture role, working closely with teams to develop and implement playbooks using Ruby or Python
  • Collaborating with application teams to integrate and define access requirements
  • Coaching, guiding, and setting standards for playbook development
  • Incremental implementation of cookbooks at various stages

Project Overview:
Architect and implement or re-architect the existing defined configuration management tool to fully integrate with SNOW CMDB and introduce automation. Develop standards for Playbooks or Cookbooks.

Contractor’s Role
The Configuration Management Architect interacts with IT project management, developers, enterprise architects, production support, and other team members and vendors. Develop standard automated reporting to identify health of agents and any potential drift.
 
Daily Tasks & Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain Ansible playbooks and roles for application deployment, configuration, and lifecycle management.
  • Utilize the selected tool for centralized management, logging, role-based access control, and workflow automation.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and architect automation solutions that align with company goals.
  • Train and mentor team members on best practices related to configuration management and automation.
  • Monitor automation processes, ensuring their reliability and efficiency.
  • Document all automation workflows, including playbook or cookbook creation and maintenance procedures.
  • Continuously evaluate the latest modules, plugins, and features to leverage in automation solutions.
  • Assist in troubleshooting and resolving any issues in the infrastructure related to automation.
  • Promote a culture of automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) within the organization.
  • Qualifications (must haves)
  • Strong knowledge of Linux/Unix systems administration and networking
  • Proficient in YAML, Jinja2, Python, Ruby, and Shell scripting
  • 8+yrs expeirence in Software Engineering & Systems Archicture
  • Experience in legacy and current technology platforms (Unix, AIX, Windows, Mainframe, Linux)
  • Experience architecting the solution from ground up as well as re-architecting an existing tool
 
Nice to have (optional)
  • Ideal candidate has a mix of technical and business skills, and a passion for problem solving.
  • Have working experience with IaaS, SaaS, and PaaS.
  • Has worked with integrating a configuration management tool into SNOW.
  • Experience with ADO and working in an agile project methodology.
