Job Title: Senior Project Manager / Senior Scrum Master – Retail PMO
Duration: 5+ Months
Location: 100% Remote (Candidates located near one of the company locations are preferred (Salisbury, NC, Mauldin, SC, Quincy, MA, Carlisle, PA, Scarborough, ME))
 
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager / Senior Scrum Master to join a high-performing Retail PMO organization. This role is responsible for leading multiple mid-sized technology initiatives supporting Retail In-Store Applications while operating across Agile, Waterfall, and hybrid delivery environments.
The ideal candidate will have extensive project delivery experience, strong Agile leadership skills, exceptional stakeholder management abilities, and a proven track record of delivering complex enterprise technology initiatives.
 
Key Responsibilities
Project & Program Management

• Lead projects from initiation through successful delivery and closure.
• Manage 3–4 concurrent mid-sized technology projects ranging from 8–12 months in duration.
• Manage project budgets ranging from approximately $400K–$2M.
• Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, budgets, governance documentation, and project communications.
• Manage project scope, timelines, risks, issues, dependencies, resources, and budgets.
• Coordinate activities across business, technology, and vendor teams.
• Drive stakeholder alignment and executive decision-making.
• Lead governance meetings and executive status reporting.
• Manage vendor relationships and delivery expectations.
• Support release planning and successful project deployments.

Agile & Scrum Leadership

• Serve as Senior Scrum Master for multiple Agile teams.
• Support approximately 2–3 Agile delivery teams.
• Facilitate Scrum ceremonies including:
  • Sprint Planning
  • Daily Stand-ups
  • Sprint Reviews
  • Sprint Retrospectives
• Facilitate Kanban ceremonies where applicable.
• Lead backlog refinement and prioritization sessions.
• Manage cross-team dependencies and delivery coordination.
• Track Agile metrics and utilize them to improve team performance.
• Identify and mitigate delivery risks using Agile practices.
• Drive continuous process improvements.
• Coach Agile teams through:
  • Agile maturity assessments
  • Team effectiveness improvements
  • Growth and development planning

Waterfall Project Management
Demonstrate strong experience managing the complete IT project lifecycle, including:

• Governance & Executive Reporting

• Lead complex and high-visibility technology initiatives.
• Bring clarity and structure to ambiguous business challenges.
• Influence business and technical teams without direct authority.
• Facilitate difficult discussions and decision-making.
• Drive accountability across multiple stakeholder groups.
• Balance project execution with strategic business objectives.
• Manage competing priorities in fast-paced environments.

Communication & Relationship Management

• Deliver executive-level presentations and status reports.
• Communicate effectively with executives, business partners, vendors, and technical teams.
• Build strong cross-functional relationships.
• Develop trusted partnerships with internal and external stakeholders.
• Manage conflicts professionally and drive stakeholder alignment.

 
Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in Project Management, Program Management, or PMO leadership.
• Proven experience as a Senior Project Manager.
• Proven experience as a Senior Scrum Master.
• Experience leading Agile, Waterfall, and Hybrid delivery projects.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent technology initiatives.
• Strong stakeholder management and executive communication skills.
• Experience managing enterprise technology implementations.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Experience facilitating Scrum and Kanban ceremonies.
• Experience with Agile planning, including:
  • Annual Planning
  • Product Roadmap Planning
  • Quarterly Planning
  • Sprint Planning
• Experience coaching Agile teams and driving continuous improvement initiatives.

Preferred Qualifications

• Retail technology or Retail In-Store Applications experience.
• Experience working in enterprise PMO environments.
• Experience with Agile-at-Scale frameworks such as:
  • SAFe
  • Scrum at Scale
• PMP Certification.
• Agile Certifications (CSM, PSM, SAFe Scrum Master, SAFe Agilist, etc.).
