Duration: 3+ Months (Contract to Hire)
Location: Norfolk, VA 23517 (425 West 20th St, Suite 1)
Shift: Monday–Friday 08:00-16:30
Mode of Interview: INDIVIDUAL INTERVIEW - ONSITE
Vaccination/Test: N/A (No vaccinations required)

Job Summary

We are seeking a dependable Phlebotomist I to join a physician's office in Norfolk, VA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for performing blood draws, specimen collection, and specimen processing while ensuring compliance with laboratory protocols and safety regulations. This role requires excellent patient interaction skills and the ability to work independently in a clinical setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture using straight and butterfly needles.
  • Collect approximately 20–30 blood draws per day.
  • Collect, label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and package specimens according to established procedures.
  • Verify laboratory requisitions and specimen labels for accuracy.
  • Ensure proper specimen storage and transportation while maintaining specimen integrity.
  • Explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a clear, professional, and courteous manner.
  • Update patient information and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, decontamination, and record maintenance data.
  • Answer telephone inquiries and communicate laboratory results as appropriate.
  • Comply with OSHA, DEP, and laboratory safety regulations.
  • Attend required departmental training sessions.
  • Work independently in a physician office environment following established workflows.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 months of recent phlebotomy experience in a physician office, laboratory, or hospital setting.
  • Graduate of an accredited Phlebotomy training program.
  • Active Phlebotomy Certification (required).
  • Strong venipuncture and specimen collection skills.
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and patient service skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience processing laboratory specimens, including centrifuging and specimen preparation for transport.
  • Prior experience working in a physician office or outpatient clinic.
  • Knowledge of laboratory safety standards and specimen handling protocols
