Job Description

Job Title: Float Phlebotomist
Location: Float position covering multiple sites in the North Central Chicago territory, including:
  • Erie Family Health Centers (Division, Humboldt Park, Superior, Helping Hands, Evanston, Sankofa, Waukegan, Foster)
  • Heart Care (Palos Park, Merrionette Park, Mokena)
  • IHR/Pinnacle (Tinley Park, Oak Brook, Chicago)
  • Joliet PSC (Larkin Avenue)
Duration: 3 months
Schedule: Full-Time, 1st Shift. Availability required for varying hours by location (e.g., Wednesday 10:30 AM – 7:30 PM) and occasional Saturday coverage at Joliet PSC. Flexibility is essential.
Travel: Required – reliable transportation and willingness to travel throughout the assigned North Central Chicago territory for coverage at multiple Patient Service Centers (PSCs) and client locations.

Summary: The primary responsibility of the Float Phlebotomist is to perform venipuncture and capillary blood collections, specimen processing, and provide excellent patient service across multiple locations while maintaining quality standards and  compliance. This is a float role requiring high flexibility to cover staffing needs at various PSCs and client sites in the greater Chicago area. The ideal candidate is an experienced phlebotomist skilled in working independently with patients of all ages (neonatal through geriatric).
Position Responsibilities:
  • Perform venipuncture and capillary collections for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients.
  • Handle specimen processing, labeling, centrifugation, packaging, and shipment.
  • Conduct Point of Care Testing, OTS, and Paternity testing as needed.
  • Perform patient registration and demographic verification.
  • Maintain quality standards, compliance with policies, and daily opening/closing procedures.
  • Support multiple locations based on staffing needs and travel throughout the territory.
  • Deliver excellent customer service while working independently and with clinical teams.
  • Follow OSHA and other safety regulations; attend required trainings.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 1 year of recent phlebotomy experience (less than 1 year automatically disqualifies).
  • Strong venipuncture and capillary collection skills, including neonatal/pediatric experience (no neonatal/pediatric experience disqualifies).
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment and work independently.
  • Flexibility to travel and work at multiple locations with reliable transportation.
  • Computer proficiency and specimen processing/handling experience.
  • Reliable attendance history and ability to work the required schedule (poor attendance or unwillingness to work schedule/travel disqualifies).
  • Ability to meet background, drug screen, and immunization requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Multi-site/float phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience working independently in a Patient Service Center (PSC) environment.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) preferred but not required.
Additional Details:
  • Approximately 20–40 patient collections daily depending on location.
  • Training will be provided.
  • Negative drug screen (including THC) and other screenings (e.g., color vision) likely required based on standard protocols.
  • Interview Process: 1–2 rounds, onsite individual interview. Shortlist within 48-72 hours.
Work Environment:
  • Onsite Float Patient Service Center (PSC) role across multiple clinic and lab locations in the Chicago area.
  • Fast-paced environment with varying patient volumes; candidates must be comfortable standing for extended periods depending on daily workload and working both independently and as part of clinical teams.
