Position Summary:
The Workers' Compensation Defense Legal Secretary will support in-house staff counsel in defending workers' compensation claims by managing legal filings, coordinating case activities, maintaining calendars, and ensuring compliance with California Workers' Compensation procedures and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- File pleadings, motions, and petitions using the EAMS system.
- Manage legal calendars, including MSCs, Trials, Depositions, and Lien Conferences.
- Prepare and format legal documents, including Answers, Objections to PTP reports, DORs, and Trial Exhibits.
- Coordinate QME/AME appointments and manage medical records according to statutory deadlines.
- Serve as a liaison with claims adjusters, opposing counsel, and WCAB.
- Process incoming and outgoing mail (electronic and paper).
- Provide additional administrative and legal support as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of Workers' Compensation Legal Secretary experience (defense experience preferred).
- Proficiency with EAMS, Microsoft Office Suite, and legal case management software.
- Strong knowledge of California Workers' Compensation laws and WCAB procedures.
- Ability to manage a high-volume workload independently with strong attention to detail.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
