Position Title: Phlebotomist I
Work Location: Warsaw, IN | LaGrange, IN | Columbia City, IN
Assignment Duration: 3-Month Contract (Potential to Extend/Contract-to-Hire)
Work Schedule:
Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
1-hour lunch
Position Summary:
The primary function of a Phlebotomist II is to perform specimen collection and related duties, troubleshoot issues, provide training support, and recommend workflow improvements within a physician office (IOP) setting. This role will support patient care while covering for an employee on FMLA.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform blood draws and other specimen collections (urine, fecal, etc.)
- Label, centrifuge, split, freeze, and store specimens according to established procedures
- Record maintenance and laboratory data accurately
- Verify physician orders and match laboratory requisitions to specimen tubes
- Explain procedures clearly and courteously to patients
- Demonstrate proficiency with straight and butterfly needles
- Package and ship specimens, maintaining sample integrity
- Follow OSHA, DEP, and protocol-specific regulations for specimen handling
- Attend all required departmental training sessions
- Handle incoming calls and assist with patient inquiries
- Perform insurance verification and potential payment collection
Qualifications & Experience:
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Minimum 2 years of experience in phlebotomy, performing venipunctures in a lab, hospital, or physician office setting
- Comfortable performing difficult draws (“hard sticks”)
- Pediatric experience preferred but not required
- Proficiency in specimen processing, labeling, and handling
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite
Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
- Majority of the shift involves standing
- Medium-sized physician office environment
- Collaborative work environment with a team
- Fast-paced setting with approximately 30 patients per day
- Initial training: 2 weeks orientation and in-field training
Additional Information:
- Full-time: 40 hours/week
- No travel required (may assist other sites if needed)
- Required vaccines: MMR, T-DAP, Varicella, TB, Hep B (optional), Flu
- Color vision required
