Property Accountant

Location: Remote (U.S.-based)
Salary: $65,000 - $85,000 DOE

Key Responsibilities of the Property Accountant:

• The Property Accountant will prepare and maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of multifamily properties
• Perform full monthly close, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid and fixed asset accounting, and general ledger maintenance
• Prepare monthly financial statements (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) and supporting schedules
• Complete variance analysis versus budget and prior periods with clear, concise commentary
• The Property Accountant will manage property-level accounts payable and accounts receivable activity, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Reconcile bank accounts and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
• Monitor cash activity and assist with cash flow reporting
• Support annual budgeting and periodic reforecasting processes
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and internal accounting policies
• Prepare audit schedules and support external audits as needed
• Partner with property management and asset management teams to resolve accounting issues and improve processes
• Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies in a remote accounting environment

Qualifications for the Property Accountant:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
• 3+ years of accounting experience; property or real estate accounting experience strongly preferred
• Strong understanding of GAAP and real estate accounting concepts
• Experience with property management/accounting systems (Yardi, MRI, or similar preferred)
• Comfortable working independently in a fully remote environment
• Clear communicator with strong collaboration skills across teams and time zones
