Job Description

Job Title: Quality Assurance Tech II
Duration: 6 Months (with possibility of extension)

Location: Hawthorne, CA (Onsite, Potential for 1 day/week at home (Friday))


Role Overview:
You will work inside a state-of-the-art lab performing hands-on root cause failure analysis of electronic, mechanical, and electromechanical components.
The role focuses on analyzing returned devices, triaging issues, debugging PCBs, and collaborating with FA Engineers to drive quality improvements and corrective actions.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform root cause failure analysis of returned devices (electronic, mechanical, electromechanical).
  • Operate lab equipment (X-ray/CT, SEM/EDS, microscopes, sample prep tools).
  • Perform micro-soldering and PCBA debugging on returned devices.
  • Read and interpret schematics and layouts to identify failure locations.
  • Prepare test samples and perform chemical/physical analysis.
  • Document findings in detailed reports with charts and images.
  • Collaborate with FA engineers, SMEs, and cross-functional teams.
  • Support field quality and safety investigations.
 
Basic Qualifications
  • 2+ years experience with electromechanical/connected devices (debugging, production, or manufacturing).
  • 1+ years micro-soldering experience (required).
  • 1+ years programming experience (embedded, database, or Python).
  • Hands-on experience with failure analysis lab equipment (optical microscope, X-ray/CT, SEM/EDS, etc.).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (preferred) OR significant lab technician experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of debugging methods/protocols.
  • Experience launching new products & driving product improvements.
  • Proficiency with SQL, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Experience with electronic test equipment (oscilloscope, logic analyzer, etc.).
  • Strong communication skills (written & verbal).
  • Ability to identify systemic issues and drive root cause analysis.
  • Thrives in a startup-like, fast-paced environment.
 
Top 3 Must-Have Skills:
  • Micro-soldering experience
  • Hands-on lab equipment usage (X-ray, SEM, microscopes, etc.)
  • Programming experience (Python / Embedded / Database)
