Job Description

Position Title: CPD&D Laboratory Technician
Work Location: Indianapolis, IN, USA, 46077
Assignment Duration: 12 Months
Work Schedule: 40 hours; 7:00am – 3:30pm Mon-Fri
Work Arrangement: Onsite

Position Summary:
Wanted: individual capable of working with insects, plant material, and nematodes while completing routine, highly detailed work. Previous laboratory experience preferred.

Background & Context:

  • Work environments vary throughout the day between laboratory, greenhouse, and insectary colonies.

  • Strong culture of safety requires individuals to adhere to all safety and ergonomic standards.

  • Extensive training in safety, ergonomics, and laboratory SOPs provided.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clipping/thinning plants used in testing.

  • Hands-on infesting of plant and artificial diet material with various (non-stinging, non-hazardous) insect species.

  • Routine assay formulation using manual pipettes.

  • Specialized assay application using hand sprayers and track sprayers.

  • Laboratory maintenance (cleaning, restocking, etc.).

  • Grading insect assays.

  • Preparation of media used in entomology testing.

  • Scribing for evaluators.

Qualification & Experience:

  • BS in Biology/Entomology.

  • Self-driven individual that also works well in a diverse group setting.

  • Flexibility to shift focus throughout the day as needed to meet customer demands.

  • Willing to work independently and with a team as needed. Self-initiated and desire to learn.

  • Strong communication and time management skills.

  • Ability to follow directions and protocols.

  • Must have work experience (any field).

  • Adherence to safety protocols: Medical Clearance & Pulmonary Function testing, Cholinesterase Eval, PPE, eventual Bee Survey.

  • Aware of potential allergen exposure (insects, latex).

  • Looking for a candidate with a degree in Biology with a focus on Entomology and/or Nematology.

  • Candidate will be using chemical spray.

  • Standing for long periods of time.

  • PPE for laboratory and spraying is provided by employer.
