Job Description

Title: Scientist I 
Location: Swiftwater, PA (18370)
Duration: 2 Years
 
Work Schedule  
8 am - 4:30 pm with some flexibility, maybe some OT but not often, maybe a couple of weekends per year

HM Notes:
  • Two year role starting ASAP. 8-4:30 with some flexibility in start and end time.
  • OT and weekend work possible a couple times per year.
  • This is a junior level position. Entry level is OK.
  • Degree in science required.
Must have lab experience:
  • Lab experience can be from school, it does not need to come from a professional level yet.
  • Day in the life: 75% working in lab hands on, 25% computer, data analysis, report writing, planning experiments, lab notes.
  • Flu Vax required.
  • Worth noting that they will be working with eggs, which are a common allergen.

Description:
Manufacturing and Supply at our Swiftwater, Pennsylvania site, the largest vaccine manufacturing facility in the US, continues to develop its manufacturing assets to produce existing and new vaccines and biopharmaceuticals.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:
• Execution of small scale experiments, working with eggs and flu virus.
• Support and assist production of high growing flu virus reassortants, flu reference antigen, and antisera.
• Running hemagglutination testing, SDS-PAGE, SRID, and chromatography.
• Ordering and maintaining supplies and materials and shipping materials as needed.
• Working with outside vendors as needed.
• Shipping biological samples for sequencing.
• Writing internal development protocols and reports related to project.
• Sample management between labs, manufacturing buildings, and analytical sciences department.
• Flexibility to work on weekends as needed.

Education and experience:
• Bachelor’s degree required; science/biology field preferred.
• 1+ years of laboratory experience
• Experience working with influenza virus, SDS-PAGE, and chromatography is a plus.
