Job Title:- Scientific Researcher Location:- South San Francisco, CA,94080 Duration:- 12 Months
Roles and Responsibilities:- The Scientific Researcher performs laboratory-based activities and processes related to the tracking, registration, inventory, preparation (e.g., DNA/RNA extractions from human biospecimens (fluid and tissue samples), human cell culture, organoid culture, Serum, Plasma and PBMC isolation from blood samples) and distribution of biological samples from clinical and non-clinical trials. This includes handling of associated metadata, coordination and execution of manual/and or automated sample processing and data workflows, request evaluation and ensuring that lab activities fulfill customer needs while achieving operational excellence in quality, service levels, cost and compliance. The Scientific Researcher will be reporting to the Lab Head.
Specific Responsibilities:
Under minimal supervision, executes assigned project activities using established procedures and applying scientific knowledge and accumulated experience to complete projects involving human bio samples processing.
Makes recommendations to resolve problems encountered while performing procedures.
Analyzes alternative approaches to solve problems or develop new perspectives on existing solutions.
Receives general direction; plans and executes own work.
Maintains an effective scientific knowledge base and effectively uses broad scientific concepts to resolve problems of moderate scope and complexity.
Responsible for the accuracy, quality, and timeliness of all assigned projects, tasks and related activities.
Summarizes experimental results, and reviews conclusions with the Lab Head.
May communicate the results of experiments in the form of reports and presentations.
Accountable for electronic records management and use of validated systems ensuring information is recorded in a timely manner, accurately and consistently.
May work on a variety of infectious human material and sample types (blood, serum, urine, stool etc.).
Performs work according to established internal safety guidelines and procedures, and as specified by appropriate external regulatory agencies.
Participates in routine lab maintenance, lab safety.
Experience:
Experience in assessing, tracking and fulfilling research customer needs on an operational level in an efficient and timely way with a high degree of customer orientation and ability to communicate with stakeholders on multiple levels.
Prior experience in biobank-based processing laboratory experience.
Human Specimen handling expertise combined with computational skills in relation to research.
Prior experience with human tissue culture and organoid culture and flow cytometry is a plus.
Team player with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
inside and outside their functional areas.
Prior knowledge of handling FFPE, OCT tissue blocks and slides with pathology lab sample handling experience is a plus
Must be well organized and meticulous.
Flexibility with respect to projects, unique biological material handling requirements, and meeting client/organizational goals and expectations.
Must be able to work in a laboratory environment on a daily basis under BSL-2 laboratory conditions.
Good written and verbal communication skills. Able to follow written and verbal instructions.
Truly passionate about the importance of biorepository management, as well as the ability to work in a global, matrix environment.
Demonstrated aptitude in cross-functional collaboration.
Results and goals oriented.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology with 5 years industry or
academy lab experience.
Masters (MS) degree, in Biotechnology, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology
with 3 years industry or academy lab experience.
Following are some expectations for hands on laboratory experience (minimum 2-3 years): 1) DNA/ RNA extraction from human samples (blood, tissue, stool). 2) Serum, plasma, PBMC isolation from fresh human blood and aliquoting of the samples. 3) Handling human stool, saliva, urine, samples for various downstream processing. 4) Experience in using LIMS and eLN.
