We are seeking a talented and self-motivated individual with a B.S. in biology, biochemistry or applicable sciences +5 years of academic/industry experience or Master‘s Degree and 3+ years of academic/industry experience or PhD in biochemistry, who is interested in joining the Protein Production and Quality Attributes team within Discovery Biotherapeutics in San Diego. The successful candidate will have knowledge in purification and characterization of bispecific antibodies and will be familiar with state-of-the-art methods to support biotherapeutic discovery efforts.
The candidate will have demonstrated success in purification of antibodies and complex molecules, executing challenging multi-step purification, analytical data interpretation, troubleshooting and formulation of final product. Experience in automation of high-throughput purification is a plus.
The candidate will show an independent ability to design purification methods, understand biochemical concepts and interpret data to generate and improve design. Candidate should have excellent communication skills and a collaborative style. Candidate will be expected to participate in team meetings and provide expertise to support discovery programs.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS: Primary responsibility is to perform original research to develop marketable products. Special emphasis will be placed on automated antibody and bispecific purification, which will involve working with GE AKTA (Pure/Avant) and Unicorn software. Knowledge of Protein Maker instrument a plus. Generate mg to gram quantities of material for in-vivo efficacy studies. Develop and optimize high-throughput purification capabilities using Lynx900 and KingFisher Flex System. Packing of chromatography columns, operating endotoxin free chromatography, including operating preparative (FPLC) and analytical (HPLC) chromatography systems. Analytical characterization including endotoxin measurements, protein quantitation assays, analytical HPLC chromatography (HIC, SEC), capillary electrophoresis (CE-SDS and cIEF), DLS, and mass photometry. Buffer preparation, molar concentration quantitation and pH adjustment. Storing, inventorying, and ordering department supplies. Participates on cross-functional teams by performing assigned experiments and offering technical advice at team meetings; shares technical expertise with other colleagues; trains or provides guidance to other personnel, if needed. Maintain a neat and clean work environment. Manage your workload with minimal supervision. Collaborate and communicate with cross-functional teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree 5+ years or Master's Degree 3+ years or PhD with no experience in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, Cell biology or related discipline. Experience in antibody/bi-specific purification and characterization including, but not limited to SDS-PAGE, CE-SDS, CiEF, AnSEC, endotoxin measurement, A280. Automated liquid handling a plus. Sample inventory management. Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail. Excellent time management skills and multi-tasking capabilities. Must be very detail-oriented and organized, with excellent time-management and multitasking skills. Have outstanding analytic and problem-solving abilities. Display excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal and presentation skills, as well as the ability to interact tactfully and effectively with employees at all levels of the organizational structure. Must be highly self-motivated, detail-oriented, well organized and work effectively as part of a team. Demonstrate a track record of initiative, creativity, organization, and independent performance at a high level combined with attention to detail and adherence to timelines/deliverables, and documentation.
