Location: Remote OK, prefer to come in 3-days though (Arlington, VA)

Job Description:
The Transportation Sustainability Specialist is responsible for collecting, analyzing, and reporting on the organization's transportation-related sustainability data, with primary focus on greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions data. This includes compiling fuel consumption, mileage, and other relevant data from the company's vehicle fleet. The Transportation Sustainability Specialist will work closely with various teams to ensure accurate and comprehensive GHG accounting for the organization's transportation footprint, supporting its sustainability goals and emissions reduction strategies.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and continuously enhance a robust data collection system to gather fuel usage, vehicle mileage, and other transportation-related data from across Amazon’s global business units.
  • Conduct detailed analysis on the collected transportation data to calculate Scope 1, Scope 2, and relevant Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, following recognized GHG accounting protocols (e.g. GHG Protocol, ISO 14064).
  • Prepare comprehensive transportation emissions reports, dashboards, and other visualizations to communicate the organization's carbon footprint to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with fleet management, facilities, procurement, and other teams to identify opportunities to improve fuel efficiency, increase the use of alternative fuels, and optimize transportation-related activities to reduce overall emissions.
  • Stay up-to-date on evolving GHG accounting methodologies, emission factors, and industry best practices for the transportation sector, and implement improvements to the data collection and reporting processes as needed.
  • Support the organization's sustainability goals by providing data-driven insights and recommendations to inform decision-making on fleet composition, route optimization, supply chain logistics, and other transportation-related initiatives.
 
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, sustainability, engineering, or a related technical field
  • 10+ years of experience in greenhouse gas accounting, emissions reporting, or sustainability data management
 
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in sustainability, environmental management, or a related discipline
  • Strong understanding of GHG accounting protocols and standards, particularly for the transportation sector
  • Proficient in using emissions calculation tools, data analysis software, and transportation-related data sources
  • Excellent project management, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management abilities
  • Passion for sustainability and driving positive environmental impact
  • Knowledge of fleet management, logistics optimization, and alternative fuel technologies
Familiarity with lifecycle assessment and other sustainability assessment methodologies
