Overview The Portfolio Analyst/Trader will support SMA portfolio management with a strong focus on trade execution, portfolio optimization, and analytics. This is a highly execution-heavy role in a quantitative, model-driven investment environment where precision, discipline, and workflow consistency matter significantly.
The role is not a stock-picking function but instead focuses on supporting systematic portfolio construction, trading, and risk-aware implementation across SMA strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Support SMA portfolio management including account setup, reconciliation, model maintenance, and portfolio optimization
Execute trades approved or directed by Portfolio Managers and senior team members
Execute high-volume electronic trades (thousands of trades across portfolios)
Support tax-loss harvesting, rebalancing, and portfolio maintenance workflows
Assist with portfolio construction and optimization processes driven by models
Monitor liquidity, order execution quality, and trade constraints (limit pricing, market impact, etc.)
Work within OMS platforms (Orion experience strongly preferred)
Monitor index changes and support corporate action workflows
Assist with portfolio reporting, performance tracking, and analytics
Support client reporting, onboarding, and operational requests
Collaborate with custodians on reconciliation and trade issues
Support internal teams with reporting, presentations, and investment materials
Participate in client calls, reporting cycles, and internal meetings as needed
Hard Requirements
2–5 years of experience in investment management, trading, or portfolio support roles
Strong understanding of equity markets and portfolio construction concepts
Experience with or exposure to trade execution in a portfolio environment
Strong analytical mindset with quantitative orientation (not stock-picking focused)
High attention to detail and strong execution discipline
Ability to handle high-volume trading workflows accurately and consistently
Working knowledge of portfolio risk, reconciliation, and tax-loss harvesting concepts
Experience with SMA platforms, institutional asset management, or wealth management environments preferred
Orion platform experience strongly preferred
Comfortable operating in structured, model-driven investment processes
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Methodical, disciplined thinker who is not hesitant in execution
Bonus / Preferred Qualifications
Experience in SMA platforms or tax-managed portfolios
Exposure to portfolio optimization, factor models, or risk systems
Background in institutional asset management, family office, or HNW platforms
Experience at Schwab, Fidelity, or similar investment/trading environments
Investment risk analyst background transitioning into investment execution role
Experience with Bloomberg PORT, Orion, or similar systems
Exposure to index funds, ETF operations, or systematic investment desks
Interest in CFA, FRM, or investment certifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field required
CFA/FRM interest or progression preferred
