Position Summary

The Phlebotomist I is responsible for performing a variety of assigned duties including specimen collection, troubleshooting, training, and workflow recommendations in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Background & Context

We are looking for at least two years of Phlebotomy experience. Their main duties are drawing blood and processing.

Will this person work with a team or alone? Working alone, inside in a facility so they have to communicate with the

staff regarding the patient they will be drawing

Key Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge samples, and record maintenance data.
• Collect and store specimens following established procedures.
• Explain venipuncture and specimen collection processes clearly and courteously to patients.
• Demonstrate proficiency using straight needles and butterfly needles.
• Review and understand physicians' orders thoroughly.
• Match laboratory requisition forms with specimen tubes accurately.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
• Verify all test requisitions and labels for 100% accuracy.
• Package and prepare specimens for transport.
• Maintain specimen integrity by following temperature and handling protocols.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA and DEP regulations.
• Participate in annual department training sessions.
• Handle incoming calls and provide laboratory results as needed.

Qualifications & Experience

• Valid Phlebotomy certification (as required by state).
• Minimum 6 months of venipuncture experience in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
• 0–4 years of overall experience preferred.
• At least 2 years of blood draw experience.
• Experience with both pediatric and geriatric patients.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• High School Diploma or GED required.

Additional Information

• Full-time: 40 hours/week (8 hours/day).
• Daily workload: 15-20
• Required vaccinations: MMR, Hep B (Candidate can decline Hep B), TB
• Color vision screening required.
