Job Description

Job Title: Payroll Process Consultant
Duration: 12 months
Location: Hybrid (Mon-Tues Onsite and Wed-Fri Remote)
Onsite Location: Mayfield Village, OH 44143

Schedule:

  • Days: Monday-Friday (Mon & Tues onsite)
  • Hours: 8 AM - 5 PM (EST)
 
Summary:
This Payroll Process Consultant is preferably someone who has gone through an implementation of Workday and who has solid payroll knowledge to assist in this implementation.
The client has been using Peoplesoft for 25 years and are implementing Workday, so this person needs to have a good understanding of Workday and to discuss and work through processes.
This Payroll Process Consultant is responsible for applying payroll expertise to payroll-related activities. Demonstrates leadership experience, advising and guiding payroll operations and payroll tax processing, compliance, and system improvements. Advises on relevant professional development experiences for members of the payroll and payroll tax teams.

  • STRONG WORKDAY BACKGROUND
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR/Payroll in Workday; Payroll Module specifically
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations governing payroll - time and tax payroll in Workday
  • Strong process and project management experience (planning, prioritizing, and organizing)
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel - Intermediate level - comfortable with Pivot Tables and V-Look Up Skills)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively
  • Ability to work with and protect highly confidential information

Day to day responsibilities:
  • This contractor will be working in a test-site
  • Identify and recommend process for payroll
  • Identify downstream implications of a process change
  • Proactively makes recommendations of best practices with a focus on increasing efficiencies (e.g. streamlining and automating work processes in Workday
  • Supports, trains and serves as an expert resource for Workday
  • Setting up tax codes in Workday: departments and CC
  • Work alongside a lead supervisor (Tina) to review the processes of :
  • how someone is going to get paid- how to and what do they do.
  • How to pay bonuses
  • One-time payments
  • How to override deductions
  • Retro pay is something the payroll will be doing.
  • Anything to do with the day-to-day payroll needs that the team currently does in Peoplesoft- they will need to set up process in Workday.

Interview Process:
  • 2 round of video interview (1 with the Hiring Manager and 1 interview with HR Controller.
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Identifies and recommends process or technology improvements by investigating business processes, identifying customer needs, researching competitors and industry trends, and understanding business area goals
  • Ensures the successful adoption of change by assisting with or leading the design and development of communication, training, and sponsorship plans; assists business partners with identifying downstream implications of a change by anticipating obstacles and/or unintended consequences
  • Leverages concepts such as prototyping, demonstrations, focus groups, pilots, workflows, surveys, risk assessments and customer scenarios to ensure the successful creation and adoption of process and technology improvements
  • Reviews current business operations, procedures, and/or processes. Researches improvements and proactively makes recommendations of best practices with a focus on increasing efficiencies (e.g. streamlining and automating work processes), improving the customer experience, containing costs and achieving business area goals.
  • Independently manages multiple large, strategic and/or complex projects or processes
  • Contributes to project documentation (e.g. timelines, initiation document, analysis needs, work breakdown structure, estimates, implementation and communication plans, risk assessment etc.)
  • Communicates regularly with the payroll management team to deliver updates and gather input to address issues; may need to leverage influencing skills to encourage customers to consider alternative approaches
  • Collaborates across the organization to achieve business goals, including communications, training, legal, finance, creative services, IT, and other groups
  • Evaluates the success of the solution once elevated; may include reporting, participating and/or leading the post-implementation review, and creating and executing a post-implementation plan
  • May own or support existing processes and tools, including maintenance, updates, training and serving as an expert resource to resolve operational issues
  • No regular travel required.
  • Able to work variable and flexible hours, such as nights, weekends, and holidays in response to business needs.
  • Able to work assigned schedule subject to flexible schedule policies and practices.
 
Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor's Degree or higher in Business or a related field of study (e.g., Finance, Marketing, Management, Sales, HR) and a minimum of 5 years' experience in a payroll process design/redesign role.
  • In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 7 years' experience in a process design/redesign role, of which 5 years is related to payroll.
 
Knowledge, Skills/Abilities:
  • Comprehensive knowledge of payroll systems
  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state and local regulations governing payroll and payroll tax compliance requirements
  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Demonstrated leadership sills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and interact effectively with all levels within the organization, including senior management and executives
  • Strong process and project management experience (planning, prioritizing, and organizing)
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Outlook, Word)
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and multi-task effectively
  • Demonstrated knowledge of HR/Payroll software, payroll tax application software, Query Tools, G/L and/or similar tools
  • Excellent facilitation and meeting management skills, along with ability to prepare reports and conduct presentations to all levels of management
  • Strong negotiation skills with the ability to work with others to reach mutually agreed upon solutions
  • Ability to work with and protect highly confidential information
 
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Requires the use of typical office equipment (e.g., computers, phones, etc.) whether working from home or in office. Computer keyboarding, computer monitor and mouse use including reaching forward, grasping, finger and wrist manipulation, and neck bending and turning; near vision is necessary for computer monitor use. If working in-office, individual will work in a typical office environment.
  • If working in an Emerging Workspace, or similar working arrangement, or working from more than one location lifting of laptop equipment, files and/or personal belongings weighing 10 lbs. or less is required.
  • High-speed internet access is required if working from a home office, at the employee's expense unless otherwise required by law will be updated based on desired skills.
