Job Description:

As an Operator-in-Training, you’ll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services – uninterrupted. Based in Roseburg, Oregon, you’ll have the opportunity to perform a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of a wastewater treatment plant including maintenance of equipment and quality control testing. You’ll contribute to the success of our program with efficient preventive maintenance and effective solutions to challenges that may arise in municipal facilities. You’ll operate treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent, observe variations in operating conditions, and interpret meter and gauge readings. You’ll also collect samples, maintain shift logs, and perform other duties as required. Most importantly, you’ll?take action?to ensure the safety, health and well-being of you and your team. 

Here's What You'll Need:

•    Basic experience in operating water/wastewater treatment plants
•    Basic understanding of computer software including Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to enter data into a maintenance management system.
•    Valid Oregon driver’s license
•    Highschool diploma or equivalent

Ideally, You’ll Also Have:

•    A current or working towards obtaining a first level water/wastewater treatment certification. Obtain license following one year of experience.
•    Basic familiarity of the principles and practices of water/wastewater treatment plant operations, valves, pumps, and motors
•    Safe work practices

Job Duties:
•    Perform daily plant checks to ensure process continuity and equipment function.
•    Engage with potentially hazardous matrices including wastewater and solids.
•    Collect process and permit samples to run analyses and interpret results.
•    Learn advanced laboratory tests such as nutrient analyses.
•    Alter plant processes to adapt treatment to changing conditions.
•    Maintain an accurate log of activities.
•    Make minor repairs to equipment and assist maintenance with major repairs.
•    Carry a 24/7 on-call phone for seven consecutive days in a rotating schedule.
•    Respond to emergency events as necessary. Staff the facility beyond normal hours during ‘high flow’ conditions.
•    Assist in maintaining the facility appearance. Mowing lawns, raking leaves, painting, pressure washing etc.
•    Work outdoors on rough terrain in the summertime making irrigation system repairs.
•    Earn an apprentice herbicide applicator license to help control noxious weeds.
•    Conduct pretreatment inspections of local businesses as required.

Work Schedule
•    Mon – Fri 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM
•    Upon completion of basic training, an alternative work schedule might be assigned:
      Mon – Thurs 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM        Sun 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM
      Tues – Fri 7:30 AM – 5:00 PM             Sat 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM
•    On-Call duties rotate on a weekly basis. Carrying the On-Call phone during an assigned week starts on Tues and ends the following Mon. 

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements:

The physical and environmental demands required to perform the essential duties of this position include standing, walking, sitting, coordination, balance, and agility demands, which may include the ability to stoop, kneel, squat, grasp, reach, perform repetitive hand movements. The candidate should be able to consistently lift 50 lbs of weight. Additional demands may involve a specific level of dexterity, grip strength, climbing and cardiorespiratory demands. The work areas may be indoor, outdoor, have loud noise, active machinery, high pressure fluid systems, electrical equipment, confined spaces, heights and depths, fumes, air borne particles, noxious gases, and chemicals. The use of appropriate safety equipment will be mandatory in these areas to prevent hazardous contact.
