Job Description

Job Title: Computer Operator II
Location: Columbia, SC (Onsite at first and then has the ability to work remotely. Typically in office 3 days a week, at home 2 days a week. Flexible) 
Duration: 12 Months 


Note:
This individual will spend a large part of their day loading eligibility files into a claims system. These tasks will be repetitive from day to day and they require the ability to follow written procedures. Organization Skills and the ability to follow written procedures. This position will be part of an IS Support Team consisting of 10 team members.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Under general supervision, operates, monitors, and troubleshoots computing platforms, systems, and peripheral equipment following established computer procedures on assigned shift.
  • Reviews and follows all procedures and documentation in performing associated job duties.
  • Works with I/S groups to ensure service objectives are met.
  • 35% Monitors/observes and troubleshoots multi-technology computing platforms including midrange, mainframe, and/or servers.
  • Ensures stable operating environment and attains maximum utilization of system facilities and resources.
  • May diagnose processing failures and seek appropriate corrective action.
  • 20% Reviews job control language, operates/monitors console systems and interacts with appropriate peripheral equipment such as printers, disk drives, tape technologies, and image technologies, for routine, regularly processed workloads.
  • Resolves basic problems and escalates to Lead Operator as needed.
  • 20% Locates/monitors/mounts physical/virtual tapes and optical platters in the tape libraries. Rotates backup tape files to the vault.
  • 15% Schedules production and quality assurance runs. Monitors scheduling system. Resolves problems and/or notifies customer of problems.
  • 10% Assists programmers and systems analysts in running non-routine workloads that are used for testing, quality development, and production.
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated analytical, organizational, communications (verbal and written), and customer service skills.
  • Knowledge of departmental operations, systems and equipment in the department.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and restore routine technical service and peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to perform system backup process and disaster recovery tests.
  • Ability to load tapes, optical media, and paper as needed.
  • Ability to interact with various technologies.
  • Familiarity of JCL.
  • Work requires ability to operate a computer.
Required Software and Tools: Thorough knowledge of console systems, peripheral equipment, computing platforms, and multiple systems platforms. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Required Work Experience: 2 years experience in the operation and support of a variety of computer systems.
