Job Description

Job title: MRO Parts Technician / Front Counter Support
Location: South San Francisco, CA 94080
Duration: 12 months
Schedule : Monday to Friday ( 10:00 AM to 7:00 PM.)

 
  • Maintaining inventory of critical parts and consumable materials by utilizing industry standard inventory control practices to support Genentech research, maintenance, manufacturing and other related areas
  • Supports receiving, warehousing, and distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing program, operational, and personnel policies and procedures
  • Adhere to safety and quality compliance guidelines, SOPs and work documents to perform day-to-day tasks
  • Utilizing computerized inventory control system to identify and track MRO parts and materials.
  • Receiving parts from standard purchase orders and special orders.
  • Supporting the new parts induction process, which could include receipt of new parts, creation of storage locations for new parts in the inventory control system, and reporting on new parts induction metrics.
  • Performing physical counts of inventory and reconcile actual stock counts to computer-generated reports.
  • Administrating physical counting process, as needed.
  • Distributing specialized tools and materials on request.
  • Assisting in parts kitting program, staging for PM based activities, and tracking/disposition of surplus/obsolete/deadstock inventory.
  • Perform periodic shelf life audits
  • Identifying and implement solutions to create real estate for parts storage.
  • Assisting mechanics and technicians with identifying and acquiring parts, materials and resources.
  • Being a technical resource to the team and assist team members in resolving issues.
  • Maintaining understanding of MRO Procurement process and, as needed, procure special orders for parts. This may involve contacting manufacturer’s representatives to purchase parts, resolve technical issues, or obtain general parts information.
  • Coordinating (arrange pick up / ship out) arrangements for internal transfers of shipment and carriers.
  • Performing routine clerical duties including data entry, answering telephones and assisting over-the-counter customers.
  • Organizing and maintaining databases of information and assist in the development of databases and metrics/benchmarks to analyze productivity and efficiency.
  • Assisting in providing routine and ad hoc reports of spare parts and materials usage for budgetary and reliability purposes.
  • Executing MRO Storeroom projects as assigned.
  • Assisting with developing, analyzing and implementing MRO Storeroom processes and improvements.
  • Supporting warehouse organization procedures (5S) and LEAN Initiatives and Process Improvements.
  • General housekeeping duties as required to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Demonstrating ability to motivate peers, lead the team, and mentor / train technicians.
  • Assisting management in task / personnel coordination.
  • Providing daily updates to ensure communication alignment between different shifts / functions within the MRO team.
  • Voicing opinions constructively, while actively supporting and implementing agreed upon goals and decisions.
  • Demonstrating Technical Expertise by providing the highest level customer service presence and providing strong technical, compliance (GMP and Safety), and systems (Quality and CMMS systems) expertise.
  • Demonstrating proficiency in all required training activities.
 
Education and Experience:
  • High school graduate with some college-level courses in inventory control, information systems or business.
  • 5 years’ work experience in a parts supply house or commercial / industrial hardware store very helpful.
 
Skills, Knowledge, and Ability:
  • Intermediate familiarity with materials and tools used in the trades (plumbing, electrical, HVAC/Ref., builder’s hardware, etc.).
  • Basic familiarity with instrumentation equipment (flow meters, conductivity / resistivity meters, RTD / temp sensors, transmitters, interface modules, etc.) is a plus.
  • Ability to interpret and understand technical specifications and vendor recommendations.
  • Ability to identify industrial machinery components (pumps, motors, belts, actuators, bearings, gaskets, seals, etc.)
  • Ability to understand nomenclature for industrial parts and equipment.
  • Working knowledge of using computers to perform daily office duties using applications such as Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, or similar applications.
  • Experience working with formal CMMS / ERP system, SAP knowledge is a plus.
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of experience working with or familiarity with a maintenance management system (SAP PM and MM experience a definite plus).
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in a large parts department in a manufacturing or facilities (MRO) environment.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience purchasing MRO materials, parts, and supplies.
  • Practical knowledge of cGMP requirements.
  • Customer service skills emphasizing the ability to interact with people of different backgrounds and skill levels.
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lift materials up to 40 lbs., unassisted.
  • Candidate will be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Candidate must be able to work day or night shifts, including weekends if necessary.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that may require handling multiple tasks at any given time.
  • Ability to process transactions and receipts in an accurate manner.
  • Must be able to traverse stairs / step ladders and be trained in the use of pallet jacks and forklifts.
