Job Description

JOB TITLE: Mechanical Support Engineer III
Location: SEA99-Odyssey (Redmond, WA, US)
Duration: 6+ months
Work Type: Onsite


Roles/Responsibilities:
The ideal candidate is a well-organized, self-starter, with a high capacity for attention to detail
• Verbal and written communication skills, as well as strong time management skills, are essential in order to balance activities among several concurrently operating projects
• The candidate will have a high degree of hands on capability to address many of the electrical and mechanical needs of the R&D process
• The following are required skills for the position: Mechancial competency - Basic mechanical skills, able to assemble components of test systems under the guidance of senior technicians or engineering staff
• Familiar with basic machine design techniques using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, etc.) needed for shop fabrication
• Familiar with vacuum and/or gas-handling systems
• Electrical competency Must understand the installation and trouble-shooting of a variety of electrical hardware
• The ability to use electrical troubleshooting tools, such as a digital volt meter, to confirm operation of low-voltage ( Must be able to read and assemble components from electrical layout drawings and schematics
• Must be able to record data in a lab notebook and communicate off-normal problems to senior staff
• Must be able to work alone in a safe and secure manner during normal and extended working hours following laboratory protocols
• Familiarity with working in a clean environment
• The ability to multitask between projects and tasking
• Must have extensive experience with hand and power tools, in addition to other basic shops tools (e.g., drill press, band saw, etc.). Must be able to produce basic mechanical drawings using 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, etc.) needed for shop fabrication
• Must be able to follow wiring diagrams for control systems and instrument panels
• Experience in collecting and recording test data from completed test systems
• Responsible for operating computer-controlled systems, which requires a basic level of computer skills (file/folder structures, viewing data files, etc.). Requires the ability to trouble-shoot and fix basic off-normal issues in order to maintain test schedules
• Must be able to follow laboratory safety and security procedures while operating and trouble-shooting systems
• Responsible for ordering lab and shop supplies as needed
• Must be able to read and assemble components from mechanical layout drawings
• Responsible for interfacing with crafts personnel and outside vendors in the process of fabricating components and specifying/acquiring mechanical hardware and materials
• Following written and verbal instructions in independently completing tasks assigned by senior staff
• Specifying materials for purchase and submitting related orders
• Accurately estimating time required to complete tasks, and meet deadlines as assigned
• Participating constructively and taking ownership in the success of interdisciplinary project teams
• Ability to work with specialty crafts personnel for facility and system modifications
• Responsibilities Conducts research and development activities including standard technical procedures that range from routine to specialized, under technical supervision
• Operates in laboratory workspaces equipped with fume hoods, glove boxes and with specialized instrumentation in order to conduct research
• Able to work off hours shifts

Minimum Qualifications:
• High school diploma and 6+ years of relevant work experience
• Technical Institute Graduate/relevant Associate’s degree and 4+ years of relevant work experience
In addition, skills in the following areas are preferred and the candidate may be expected to gain experience in the following:
• Mechanical skills needed to assemble complex test systems made up of sub-components.

• Work as part of a diverse team in establishing test processes for laboratory and field experiments. Responsible for operating computer-controlled systems, which requires a basic level of computer skills (file/folder structures, viewing data files, etc.).
• Requires the ability to trouble-shoot and fix basic off-normal issues in order to maintain test schedules. Must be able to follow laboratory safety and security procedures while operating and trouble-shooting systems.
• Basic understanding of computer hardware, including hardware interfacing to a computer.

REQUIRED SKILLS
  • Must be able to read the 3D drawings
  • Basic to advanced electrical avionics experience.
  • Any prior test experience will be a plus like running data acquisition but not necessary.
  • Years of Experience: 6-8 years of experience
Degree or Certification:
