Job Title: Mechanical Engineer III
Location: Bellevue, WA
Duration: 06 Months
 
As a Mechanical Engineer candidate will work in an interdisciplinary team to develop, design, prototype, and test innovative automation solutions. Engineer will own key aspects of the architecture of complex and integrated electro-mechanical systems from concept to production and deployment. Engineer will drive the technical details and pragmatic feasibility of mechatronic systems that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software components. Engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams, both internal and external, to deliver reliable and scalable systems.
 
A day in the life
  • Lead the design and integration of mechatronics systems, considering mechanical, electrical, and software components.
  • Build, test and validate prototypes to prove path to viable, manufacturable and scalable solutions.
  • Bring DFMA (Design for Manufacturing) expertise to enable quick development and manufacturability.
  • Design electro-mechanical components, create detailed designs in CAD, generate drawings and release documentation for manufacturing through a PLM software.
  • Use your experience in Design and mechatronics to improve the overall system efficiencies and performance
  • Your design and implementation decisions demonstrate mechanical engineering best practices Independently create proof-of-concepts that include mechanical, electrical and software components
  • Work with the Safety, Regulatory, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Quality teams as well as outside partners to ensure smooth product launches
 
Basic Qualifications
  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics (or equivalent)
  • 2+ years of experience in the design of complex mechatronics or robotics systems
  • Strong hands-on experience with the ability to craft proof-of-concept prototypes
  • Experience in Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, Tolerancing and GD&T
  • 2+ years of Solidworks, or similar CAD software, experience with knowledge of best practices for part design, large assemblies, drawings and configuration management
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to collaborate with other teams in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven experience to effectively communicate concepts and proposals through design reviews and presentations to management
  • Customer-focused and proven experience to prioritize work demands in a dynamic work environment with multiple projects, project owners and dedication to meeting deadlines
 
Preferred Qualifications
- MS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Robotics (or equivalent)
- Experience designing mechatronics solutions for production or fulfillment automation
- Experience deploying industrial automation solutions at large scales globally
- Good understanding of system engineering and requirements gathering
- Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams and partnering closely with electrical and software/controls engineers to deliver fully integrated real-world solutions
- Experience documenting designs in accordance with ASME Y14.5
- Good understanding of the various stages of the Product Development Process
- Experience designing systems that meet stringent compliance and regulatory standards
- Experience working with overseas vendors to manage assembly build and quality
- Proficiency with Solidworks and advanced top-down design modeling methods
- Proficiency with Simulation and Finite Element Analysis tools (ANSYS, ABAQUS, etc.)
- Proficiency with PDM and PLM experience (Team Center), including change control process
 
What does the structure/makeup of the team currently look like?
  • MHE Engineering own all design and conveyance of delivery stations
  • Over 400 delivery stations
  • Existing sites; doing retrofits and improvements, troubleshooting issues
  • Working with vendors to design new delivery stations
  • Responsible for design aspects of delivery buildings
  • conveyance systems and machines that move packages within the buildings.
How big is the team this contractor will be joining? / Who else makes up the team?
  • This is a team of 5 engineers
 
What will this contractor be working on / are there specific projects?
  • Machine error data that comes to the team
  • Sort data based on which integrators equipment
  • Feed this to engineering teams to parse out errors and where it’s stemming from
  • Drive resolution on errors and troubleshooting and defect
  • Build statistical analysis of defects.
  • Very data driven role.
  • Testing on supplier sites.
  • Travel from site to site.
  • Launch sites, need spare parts for these sites. This role will track inventory in each site. Working with stakeholder teams and supply chain, maintenance.
  • A liaison type of role.
  • Minimal work on-site
  • May be a site visit or two in beginning of contract just to understand physicality of equipment to understand the data they are analyzing.
  • Testing from a process standpoint. Building engineering team wiki. Tactical kind of role.
  • What is the working environment like, interaction with other team members?
  • There will be some vendor collaboration. Not at vendor facilities, mainly virtual
  • Most of collab will be with internal team of 5 engineers.
 
On a scale, does this role lean more towards individual or collaborative projects & work?
  • Data branching and testing will be individual work
  • Collaboration starts with resolutions.
  • 50/50 individual vs collab
 
Describe your expectations for training once a worker starts and expected ramp up.
  • Make sure that they are set up for success with someone to shadow and learn from. Have an onboarding buddy
  • Be around to answer questions
  • Team doesn’t have formal training program, very loose. Learn by experience and trial and error and hands-on ownership right off the bat.
  • Any new employee coming in the team wants to take in their perspective and ideas. Open to new ideas and new ways of doing things.
 
What protocols, technologies or equipment are you requiring the contractor to have proficient knowledge in?
  • Proficient with data pulling, analysis
  • Excel experience
  • 3d modeling, 2d drawing
  • CAD software
 
Must Haves:
  • Mechanical Equipment Design & Testing w/ CAD software, 3d modeling and 2d designing.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing engineering, quality engineering or industrial engineering working on projects in production/assembly/factory line or testing.
  • Automation Conveyer Equipment background
