Job title: Mail Sorter Operator Duration: 5 Months assignment with possible conversion Location: Columbia, SC. 29223 (Onsite) Shift: M-F, 8:30 am until 5:00 pm Pay rate: $15/hour.
Summary: Process mail by priority, based on contractual mail date, and finalize mailings for United States Postal Service (USPS) acceptance. Input sort schemes to the sorter system to obtain the best possible postage rates allowed. **Sorter operators follow strict guidelines to enforce a HIPAA compliant operation, ensuring mail is sealed, undamaged, and adheres to standard safety practices in operating equipment. Mail procedures require the adherence to the USPS regulations governing mail and adherence to federal privacy regulations.
Responsibilities:
60% Operate high speed sorting equipment under the direction of a supervisor of production coordinator to meet the department's daily service goals for automated outgoing mail. Estimate completion time and report anticipated delays to management team with sufficient time to adjust and meet required postal service acceptance deadlines.
10% Set up equipment to meet advanced mail processing requirements for outgoing mail by utilizing the equipment's control computer console to input sort schemes and bin assignments. Make all necessary mechanical adjustments required for timely completion of 1st and 2nd pass processing.
10% Execute continuous quality checks of sorted mail and examine bin-to-tray tags throughout the process. Troubleshoot equipment problems and perform operator adjustments necessary to meet USPS automation requirements. Execute timely escalation of equipment problems when necessary.
10% Ensure smooth operation of the equipment by completing the required daily maintenance of the machine and conduct periodic tests and verifications of barcodes throughout the shift to ensure full acceptance by the USPS.
5% Print, validate, and transmit all USPS required documentation for each mailing.
5% Work closely with production coordinator and supervisor to provide best practices on barcode sorting operational fulfillment knowledge in the implementation of new lines of business and other software tools used in the department. Recommend procedures and improvements to the process.
Required Education: High School Diploma or equivalent. Required Training: Pitney Bowes Certified Sorter Operator within 90 days of hire. Required Work Experience: 2 years experience working in a business or government agency. Languages: English.
