Job Description

Job Title: Laboratory Technician
Job Location: Johnston, IA 50131
Duration: 12 months


JOB SUMMARY
With guidance from supervision, assists technical personnel in general laboratory operations and routine laboratory or information handling tasks in support of scientific research. Perform tasks according to accepted methods and training prescribed by the work group. We are currently looking for a self-motivated Plant Transformation Lab Technician to join our group. The candidate will work on plant transformation and tissue culture supporting the research dicot lab. This is a hands-on, lab-based role which requires the ability to concentrate, pay attention to details, work efficiently both independently and collaboratively, troubleshoot to develop effective solutions when problems occur and maintain organized records of work, project data and other information as needed. This position is Part-time and will work on average 40 hours per week, with a flexible schedule.

Qualifications
1. Bachelor or Associate Degree in Biology, Microbiology or a related field
2. Knowledge of aseptic techniques, as well as general understanding and application of scientific principles, theories, and concepts
3. Ability to maintain a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
4. Excellent planning, organization, and execution skills
5. Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively as a team member
6. Positive attitude and good interpersonal skills
7. Strong communication skills, both written and oral
8. Energy, self-motivation, ownership, and focused execution
9. Previous experience with plant tissue culture and transformation methods in an industry setting is preferred
10. Experience with light and fluorescent microscopy is preferred
