Job Title: Laboratory Technician (Seeding Lab Technician)
Job Location: Indianapolis, IN 46077
Job Duration:  12 Months


Description:
We are looking for a Seeding Lab Technician. Discovery Operations Center is the team that manages the greenhouse facility in Indianapolis. Specifically, in the seeding lab, the team produces plant material for Biology Discovery research groups. If selected, you will have the opportunity to work independently and be a part of the larger team. In this role you will support all activities in the Seeding Lab including plant production, development of seeding techniques, propagation methodology and germination testing. You will be expected to follow protocols and procedures as well as safety standards.

Preferred Education and experience:
• Associates or bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Biology, Agriculture, Horticulture or other plant science related field. Related work experience will be highly valued.
• Degree not required. In lieu of degree, 1-2 years of lab experience is required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Process daily seeding requests per detailed instructions to ensure accuracy for testing every time.
• Delivery of finished orders to greenhouse.
• Complete assigned work and assist team as needed.
• Once trained, possess knowledge of all techniques required for the array of plantings, seeds, and soils to fill all seeding requests.
• Interact with automation including auto-seeders, transplanting system, automatic bench system.
• Possess general biology/plant knowledge.
• Quality Control data collection.
• Germination Testing.
• Greenhouse work; seed increases.
• Maintenance of seed inventory.
• Collaboration with team members, colleagues, customers, and researchers.

Required Qualifications:
• Highly motivated, fast learner, organized, detail-oriented, and devoted to project/team goals.
• Able to read/listen and follow detailed instructions.
• Strong multi-tasking abilities while maintaining focus on performing each task correctly.
• Have the ability to investigate, research and solve problems.
• Able to collaborate and communicate effectively with colleagues.
• Must have “commitment to safety” attitude for self, others, and the environment.
• Punctuality is required for the success of the team.
• Proficient in the Microsoft Office Suite of applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
• Must be able to stand for long periods of time.
• Must have good manual dexterity.
• Able to work in hot environment (greenhouse) for periods of time.
• Able to work in environment with dust, dirt, seeds, planting media and various plant material.
• Job includes periods of repetition/repetitive motions.
