Shift Hours:  3rd shift. Mon – Fri. 12am - 8:30am
Skills: Microtomy and embedding required

Summary:
The histotechnician will perform all routine and special paraffin histotechnology duties in our state-of-the-art, CAP-certified pathology laboratory. Under the guidance of a Senior or Lead Histotechnologist, you will provide high quality diagnostic material within established turn-around times.
 
Position Responsibilities:
  • Embeds, cuts, stains, and performs other tasks required to process tissue in the Immunohistochemistry laboratory.
  • Performs accurate gross description on tissue samples.
  • Perform quality control procedures established for each method and maintains accurate records.
  • Operates all instruments/equipment according to accepted written procedures and recognizes and identifies instrument/equipment problems.
  • Meets acceptable turnaround time and productivity standards for the section.
  • Recognizes testing errors/discrepancies or problems and notifies appropriate personnel; assists in problem resolution.
  • Record, transcribe, and maintain records of patient test results according to protocol.
  • Assist other personnel with identifying and analyzing inconsistent and abnormal results.
  • Review accuracy and completeness of results prior to releasing in the Laboratory Information System.
  • Complete routine and STAT testing within acceptable turn-around time guidelines.
 
Required:
  • Associate degree in medical technology, chemistry, biology, or related life science
  • Formal training in Histology from an accredited program (720 hours)
  • State Licensure, where applicable (CA, FL, NY require licensing)
  • Meets CLIA personnel standard criteria
  • Skills in microtomy, grossing, processing, embedding, cutting, and routine special staining techniques
  • 5-7 years of experience
