Title: Glassware Sanitation Technician
Duration: 12 Months
Location: Johnston, IA 50131


Work shift 7:30 AM - 4:00 PM, M-F
Occasionally Driving is required for the assignment (Active DL required)


Job Description:
The Research Assistant will provide central services support to the labs by providing sterile glassware, water, and supplies on an as needed basis. The Research Assistant will also be responsible for autoclaving biohazard waste and ensuring that all protocols are followed, and work is performed in a safe manner.

Duties/Responsibilities:
• Provide clean, sterile glassware and supplies to labs. Ensure that labs have designated supplies including sterile water.
• Responsible for calling in service when needed and communications to team and labs when equipment needs repair.
• Update lab documentation to ensure glassware labeling is accurate and that services performed are documented for specific labs.
• Actively ensure a safe working environment for yourself and teammates. Decontaminate bagged Bio-Hazard waste.
• Provide coverage for teammates when needed and participate in building and maintaining a strong team working environment.
• Determine how much work can be accomplished daily that will ensure glassware, supplies and water are delivered within a 24-hour window.
• Ability to travel between Johnston locations during working hours in your personal vehicle. Ability to resolve internal customer issues by communicating with management and receiving feedback on needed changes in glassware support to ensure research expectations are met.
• The Research Assistant will be required to independently resolve issues that may arise within the team, with internal customers, or with external contractors.
• The individual will need to prioritize customer demands to ensure that other responsibilities are not jeopardized.

Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED required.
Technical Associate's degree preferred, or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience.

Competencies:
Ability to read/interpret instructions and carry out tasks in absence of supervision.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to lift and move up to 50 lbs. of weight, repetitive use of wrists, hands and fingers, to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is repeatedly required to stand, walk, and work on their feet for prolonged periods.
• Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
• Ability to communicate and work with others in a team setting and of diverse cultural backgrounds and languages. The ability to fluently speak, write, and read English is required.
• Some mechanical knowledge is preferred.
• Ability to work in various environmental conditions.
The applicant will be familiar with laboratory practices and sterile laboratory techniques while following all safety regulations.

Bonus Structure:
$500 paid after 6 months, $1,000 paid after 12 months (repeats every year worker stays onsite)
