The Disaster Recovery Systems Analyst / Engineer is responsible for supporting client's information technology It Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery readiness efforts. This includes working with system owners, vendors, and infrastructure teams to ensure critical systems have viable recovery strategies in place. The ideal Disaster Recovery Systems Engineer is a technical SME who is adept at communications and planning.

In this role, the employee provides advice, assistance and leadership in any area associated with the planning, procurement, provision, delivery, management, maintenance for IT business continuity planning (IT BCP) of information systems for a business area. Meticulously managing all phases of Disaster Recovery, encompassing technical recovery and client coordination to ensure a seamless transition in the event of an invocation.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Consults with individual areas, identifying needs, gathering information and analyzing data to assist in the development of an IT disaster recovery plan and associated testing.

• Develops business relationships and integrates activities with other Business Technology Organizations (BTOs) to ensure successful implementation and support of IT BCP and disaster recovery (DR) project efforts.

• Serves as the subject matter expert and provides consulting support to Division IT and end-user organizations for IT Business continuity and disaster recovery.

• Educates system owners regarding IT BCP, options and their roles / responsibilities as it relates to application criticality and disaster recovery.

• Assists in the creation of project plans, documents, and presentations regarding resiliency planning and disaster recovery.

• Designs process, procedure, documentation, and continuous methods for improvement.

• Support all aspects of disaster recovery readiness for business-critical applications including:

o Proof of concept testing for new provisioning or following fixes to system strategies

o Support and assist in enterprise disaster recovery exercises and invocation

o Coordinate activities for post exercise issue mitigation and follow-up

• Build the ability to support and/or manage Information technology disaster recovery efforts in the event of a site outage or IT Crisis Action Team (BTS CAT) planning initiatives (tabletop and exercise).

• Create and maintain DR documentation for critical systems, maintaining them for immediate use if needed, and conduct annual end-to-end testing of the system's recoverability.

• Maintain documentation regarding test results to track continuous improvement, updating stakeholders as applicable. Lead post recovery test review and assist in assigning remediation tasks to improve the overall program.

o Creates concise, accurate, and timely reports, identifying gaps/concerns to manage process improvements.

• Maintains awareness of current legal/compliance requirements for business continuity plans and standards. Interprets and applies principles to maintain compliance as they pertain

• Provides off-hours support as required for recovery exercises and invocation, when needed.

• Consulted on IT BCP issue management and resolution activities.

 

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree Computer Science, Information Systems, Telecommunication, other related field or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

• IT Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery experience.

• At least 5 years of information technology experience working within an enterprise.

• Effective at managing multiple projects, efforts, and priorities concurrently.

• Adept at project organization and management.

• Highly effective at verbal and non-verbal communication.

• Demonstrated knowledge in support of infrastructure disciplines and technologies.

o Familiarity with enterprise technologies and networks; including servers, backups, virtualization, SAN, firewalls, VPN, and load balancers.

o AWS Cloud solutions experience.

• ServiceNow experience desired.

• Fusion Risk Management (SaaS solution) or Salesforce.com technologies experience desired.

• Certified Business Continuity Planner designation desired.

• Business Continuity certifications (CBCI, CBCP, EDRP.) desired

Requirements:

• A bachelor’s degree and 6+ years of experience in business continuity management or equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Strong understanding of Business Continuity standards, principles, tools, and techniques.

• Strong interpersonal skills, with experience in interacting with global multicultural staff at all levels within the organization.

• Excellent project management, planning, and organizational skills.

• Excellent verbal and written skills communications skills.

• Proven ability to prioritize multiple, complex tasks.

• Ability to set goals and prioritize objectives pertaining to tasks, projects, and deadlines.

• Experience with ICS-based Incident Management processes.

• Must be able to work as a part of a team or independently.

• Proven competencies in conflict resolution, adaptability and coordination.

• Availability to work outside regular business hours to support testing/training/real life incidents.
