JOB SUMMARY:
  • The purpose of this position is the primary data, analytics & reporting of energy and sustainability initiatives on a global basis for a region or account or within a client’s enterprise client account. This role delivers actionable insights from environmental & utility data and assists in the deployment & management of a comprehensive E&S Program.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Work closely with Energy and Sustainability Team and on-site staff in all levels of organization to meet goals set by the client.
  • Work and coordinate with client’s Energy and Sustainability platform to enhance current service offerings.
  • Collect and analyze monthly utility data, i.e., electricity, water, sewer, natural gas, oil and waste data with commentary on actual usage versus expected usage, coordinate with appropriate stakeholders to explain meaningful variances. Ensure detailed investigation of significant variances are undertaken to ensure root cause is well understood and communicated. Review utility bills for accuracy and verify that they comply with the associated rates and tariffs.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly utility data and review with Energy Manager to validate normalized savings, develop exception reports for senior management, explanation of potential variances and year-over-year trends. Monitor and track, carbon, water use and waste diversion rates, spending trends.
  • Assist in the annual disclosure process, including timely and accurate initial preparation of monthly, quarterly, annual GHG inventory, and regional regulatory filings, catalogues supporting data for audit, and solicits commentary as necessary.
  • Develop dashboard to coordinate energy and sustainability initiatives, monitor compliance, analyze, and communicate externally facing reporting as required.
  • Review consumption data and validate energy, cost, or carbon savings resulting from operational programs which curtail energy consumption.
  • Support the client’s leadership with status reports as required outlining progress against carbon, energy, water and waste goals.
  • Compare collected data against industry benchmarks and prepare reports of findings.
  • Review all data inputs to ensure the accuracy and timely submission of required reports. Ensure that errors are corrected within the appropriate time frame and are escalated properly.
  • Assist in the development, implementation and subsequent monitoring of systems and processes to ensure data accuracy.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement continuous improvement strategies to improve data ingestion, quality, timelessness, required data transformations and more such that client environmental, consumption and financial data is comparable, accurate and timely. Transformations would include, units, time periods, carbon factors and more to provide a common basis of analysis. Provide feedback on process improvements needed for quality in service delivery.
  • Identify skills required to ensure that tasks are completed, and proper training is provided.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • No formal supervisory responsibilities in this position. Provides informal assistance such as technical guidance, and/or training to coworkers. May lead project teams and/or plan, and supervise assignments of lower-level employees.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Knowledge of the corporate real estate outsourcing industry, knowledge of operational sustainability including industry trends and major public ESG initiatives.
  • Data science, computer science experience preferred.
  • A successful applicant must have strong skills in the following areas/categories: advanced project management, strong client-facing communications, experience in data modeling and relational databases, Tableau expertise.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor's degree highly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree (BA/BS) from four-year college or university.
  • Minimum of three years of related experience and/or training
CERTIFICATES and/or LICENSES:
  • Energy and Sustainability related certifications and/or licenses a plus
  • Training and accreditation may be part of development and performance management requirements.

FINANCIAL KNOWLEDGE:
  • Accounting, accruals, budget/reforecast, and variance analysis
  • Requires knowledge of financial terms and principles. Conducts intermediate financial analysis. Ability to calculate intermediate figures such as percentages, discounts, and averages.
REASONING ABILITY:
  • Ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret complex business documents. Possess excellent writing skills for reports, manuals, speeches, articles, and communications using distinctive styles and various delivery methods.
  • Ability to respond effectively to complex inquiries or complaints from clients, co-workers, supervisor, and/or management.
  • Ability to make effective presentations on complex topics to an internal department, large group of employees, clients, and/or management. Ability to motivate and negotiate effectively with client groups to take desired action.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
  • Carbon footprint reporting experience or training preferred. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Intermediate skills with remainder of MS Office Suite. Ability to learn and utilize applications such as Capturis, ENEL X, Energy Star Portfolio Manager, and Tableau.
