Job Description

Job Title: Corporate Attorney III
Location: 100% remote
Duration: 3 months (Possible contract to hire)
Shift: Monday to Friday, 40 hours-8 hours a day
 
Note: The attorney should have their own Professional Liability with at least a $1MM limit and can provide evidence (i.e., COI).

Position Summary:
Handles moderately complex legal assignments and projects with little or no supervision. Has substantial interaction with product manager/general manager level executives. Conducts legal research and drafts moderately complex legal documents. Assists senior level attorneys with legal matters. Communicates effectively to senior management. Possesses an expertise in complaint handling, state reporting and customer filings. Miscellaneous regulatory matters will also be assigned.

Day to day responsibilities:
  • Analyze, review, draft, and edit moderately complex legal documents and memorandums for senior attorneys and/or the business, including, but not limited to, customer, department of insurance and better business bureau complaints.
  • Spot legal issues in the complaints
  • Coordinating with other experts
  • Volume: Is high overall, but this attorney will get all of the complaints
 
How does the attorney receive the complaints?
  • External parties send the complaints to the Consumer Relation Team and they determine the deadlines and who should engage in response, and then they reach out to Legal.
     
What will separate an average candidate vs a great candidate on a resume?
  • Having an attorney who has worked in the insurance industry would be a bonus
  • Having an attorney in the financial industry would also be a bonus as they're highly regulated like the insurance industry
  • STRONG written and verbal communication
  • Ability to work on a variety of matters at the same time and prioritize
 
Who is this worker's main interaction going to be with?
  • 3 attorneys on the team
  • Will collaborate with other attorneys in claims legal and corporate
 
Will the contractor be working independently, or will they be collaborating with team members and/or a manager to complete tasks?
  • They work independently and come together once a week to discuss challenges
  • Email and Teams will be source of communication for assistance
  • Collaborate outside of the team
 
How will performance be measured:
  • Customer feedback; observations, colleague feedback
 
Interview Process:
  • 1 round of video interview
 
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Analyzes, reviews, drafts, and edits moderately complex legal documents and memorandums for senior attorneys and/or the business, including, but not limited to, customer, department of insurance and better business bureau complaints.
  • Researches, investigates, and analyzes statutory and case law. Areas of focus include, but are not limited to, complaint handling, state reporting and customer filings.
  • Analyzes complex business issues/matters, assesses legal risk, and makes and presents tactical and strategic recommendations regarding the legal implications of these matters to the business with little or no supervision. Communicates and/or provides counsel to product/general manager level executives and other areas of the business regarding legal questions/matters. Works and partners with these higher levels of management to accomplish business objectives.
  • Manages complex projects and/or business matters/issues with little or no supervision.
 
Education and/or Experience:
  • Juris doctor degree or Master of Laws (LLM) and a minimum of 5 years of post-degree legal practice experience.
  • Active license to practice law in at least one state; Active or Corporate license in state where working (or eligible to be)

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
  • Typical office environment requiring the use of typical office equipment (e.g., computers, phones, etc.). Computer keyboarding, computer monitor and mouse use including reaching forward, grasping, finger and wrist manipulation, and neck bending and turning; near vision is necessary for computer monitor use. If working in an Emerging Workspace, or similar working arrangement, lifting of laptop equipment, files and/or personal belongings weighing 10 lbs. or less is required.
  • May require long periods of sitting.
  • May require prolonged repetitive use of the upper extremities.
  • Will be updated based on desired skills.
