Position Title: Accountant V Location: Toronto, Ontario Work Arrangement: Hybrid – 4 days onsite Shift Timing: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM Duration of Assignment: 15 months Extension / Conversion into FTE: Yes Position Summary The Specialized Finance Manager, Chief Accountant's Department, Accounting Policy and Advisory, is responsible for the development, maintenance and interpretation of the Bank's accounting policies in support of matters relating to the US Retail segment and bank-wide ECL (Expected Credit Losses). Additionally, this role requires the incumbent to assist in the monitoring, tracking and implementation of new and emerging accounting standards.
Roles & Responsibilities
Act as the primary APA contact for matters relating to the US Retail segment and bank-wide ECL.
Act as a subject matter expert on ECL, revenue, operating segments and other US Retail related accounting issues.
Provide timely, accurate and practical technical accounting advisory services under IFRS to stakeholders.
Understand accounting standards and business objectives to support business units.
Translate and communicate complex accounting topics to stakeholders.
Recognize and anticipate potential opportunities and recommend changes as the business or regulatory environment changes.
Conduct technical accounting research, benchmarking and analysis.
Prepare accounting memos and presentation materials.
Assist in the preparation of external consolidated shareholder reports, including: MD&A, Financial Statements and Notes, Supplemental Financial Information.
Support new accounting and reporting disclosures and enhancements to existing disclosures.
Keep up to date with new accounting pronouncements under IFRS.
Present periodic technical updates and prepare accounting policy update materials.
Manage and develop strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Assist in the development, maintenance and interpretation of Bank-wide accounting policies.
Meet with stakeholders and prepare audit committee presentation decks.
Review financial statements, MD&A, notes and supplemental financial information.
Must-Have Requirements
CPA, CA designation.
Minimum 3 years of CPA, CA background.
Experience researching and resolving complex accounting issues under IFRS (3+ years).
Familiarity with financial statements and external reporting (3+ years).
Stakeholder management experience (3+ years).
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.).
Experience working with a Big 4 accounting firm (KPMG, Deloitte, EY, or PwC).
Strong attention to detail.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-Have
Experience with ECL (Expected Credit Losses) – 3+ years.
US GAAP experience related to financial instruments, ECL and banking accounting issues.
Additional Requirements
Post-secondary education in Business and/or Accounting.
Preferred background in advisory services.
Technical accounting and auditing experience.
Accounting research experience.
Familiarity with IFRS and CPA standards.
Ability to comprehend complex business transactions and strategies.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Sound judgment and high standards for accuracy.
Ability to manage deadlines, multiple tasks and changing priorities.
Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at various levels of seniority.
