Job Description

Title: CAD Engineer
Location: 100% Remote (Local to San Diego, CA)
Duration: 12 Months

Job Responsibilities
Develops and applies Computer Aided Design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems. Interfaces with various cross functional teams (Design and Verification Engineers, IT Engineers, external EDA vendor application engineers, and internal CAD teams) to discuss, analyze, and review verification tool and flow issues and develop specs, review, and validate fixes and enhancement requests. Supports project execution and works toward improving cost, operational efficiency, productivity, and time to market.

The responsibilities of this role include:
• Working independently with little supervision.
• Making decisions that are moderate in impact; errors may have financial impact or effect on projects, operations, or customer relationships; errors may require involvement beyond immediate work group to correct.
• Using verbal and written communication skills to convey complex and/or detailed information to multiple individuals/audiences with differing knowledge levels. May require strong negotiation and influence, communication to large groups or high-level constituents.
• Having a moderate amount of influence over key organizational decisions (e.g., is consulted by senior leadership to provide input on key decisions).
• Completing tasks that do not have defined steps; simultaneous use of multiple mental abilities is generally required to determine the best approach; mistakes may result in significant rework.
• Exercising substantial creativity to innovate new processes, procedures, or work products within guidelines or to achieve established objectives.
• Using deductive and inductive problem solving; multiple approaches may be taken/necessary to solve the problem; often information is missing or conflicting; advanced data analysis and interpretation skills are required.
• Occasionally participates in strategic planning within own area affecting immediate operations.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities
• Modifies and/or troubleshoots complex tools and workflows that improve productivity and efficiency of design and verification teams.
• Performs root cause analyses on complex customer problems to identify underlying issue.
• Debugs software issues and escalates only highly complex technical issues to technical leads or Principal Engineers.
• Applies basic knowledge of programming languages (e.g., Python, Perl, TCL) to support, debug, and optimize features and tools.
• Owns part of a workflow and recommends processes for how it should be written and released.
• Provides timely and accurate responses to questions and issues from customers (e.g., design and verification engineers).
• Reviews tests and adds additional test cases when necessary to ensure that customer issues are fully understood and analyzed.
• Oversees the publication (e.g., writing, reviewing, editing) of customer interaction activities.
• Gathers requirements from users and/or vendors to write complex scripts.

• Programming - Knowledge of programming and associated programming languages. This includes major features and capabilities, and system management tools related to programming. This also includes the ability to identify resources for troubleshooting related issues or questions.
• Scripting - Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Perl, Python, GNU make, bash, tcsh) and tools (VCS, Xcelium, Questa) and internal CAD tools, flows, and methodologies. This includes basic concepts, major features and capabilities, and system management tools related to scripting. This also includes the ability to identify resources for addressing or answering scripting-related issues or questions.
• CAD Engineering - The ability to develop and apply Computer Aided Design (CAD) software engineering methods, theories, and research techniques in the investigation and solution of technical problems. This includes planning technical projects in the design and development of CAD software, defining and selecting new approaches and implementation of CAD software engineering applications, and preparing design specifications, analyses, and recommendations.
• Troubleshooting - Knowledge of systematic approaches to solving common technical problems (e.g., hardware, software, application, operational, process). This includes the ability to identify problems and report and escalate problems according to established procedures. This also includes the ability to identify available resources for troubleshooting.

Education Requirement
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field.
