Job title : Associate Scientist Location : South San Francisco, CA 5 days/week, Fully onsite Duration : 12 months (Possibility of extension depending upon business requirements and performance) Shift : Standard business hours (approximately 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM)
Description This role will focus heavily on routine molecular biology and genomics workflows, including nucleic acid extraction, PCR, RNA sequencing, and NGS library preparation support. Ideal candidates will have hands-on experience with RNA/DNA isolation, PCR, and RNA sequencing workflows. Prior NGS library preparation experience is strongly preferred. Experience operating sequencing instrumentation or laboratory automation systems is a plus, though training can be provided for internal processes and platforms. Manager strongly prefers candidates with a Master’s degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Genomics, or a related scientific discipline, though both academic and industry experience backgrounds are acceptable. Candidates should demonstrate strong independent learning ability, problem-solving skills, and comfort operating within a routine, high-throughput laboratory environment. This team is looking for individuals who can ramp quickly, work independently after training, and remain engaged in a repetitive but critical operational workflow. PhD candidates are generally not preferred due to potential overqualification concerns.
Job Summary : The Discovery Genomics group in the Target Discovery & Biology (TD&B) is seeking a highly motivated Associate Scientist in the field of molecular biology to join the NGS wet-lab team at our research facility in South San Francisco. This associate scientist will work closely with an energetic research team to execute quantitative experiments and generate high quality data by using cutting-edge platforms for RNA analysis
Top 3 Must Have Skill Sets: Nucleic acid isolation and QC, quantitative PCR, NGS library construction including amplicon-seq and RNA-seq Operation of high-throughput sequencers
Day to Day Responsibilities: Nucleic acid isolation and QC, quantitative PCR, NGS library construction, including amplicon-seq and RNA-seq, as well as BRAVO automation Operation of high-throughput sequencers, sample quality control instruments, and automated liquid handlers, as well as maintenance of common laboratory material stocks Sample/project organization and clear documentation of experiments Employee Value Proposition:
