Job Description

Job Title: Software Engineer III
Desired Location: Remote
Duration: 9 months, open to extension

Job Summary:
  • We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to join our team, with a strong focus on media full stack and backend development. The ideal candidate will have expertise in PHP, React, and C++ which is used for building media-related applications and services, as well as a solid understanding of media ingestion and encoding, backend engineering principles, and media stack knowledge. In this role, the candidate will work closely with a senior software engineer to design, develop, test, and debug complex software systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and performance.
 Must-Have Skills:
  1. 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on media full stack and backend development
  2. Media stack experience (ingestion and encoding) and familiarity with encoding formats Av1, HVEC
  3. Expertise in PHP, React, and C++ which is used for building media-related applications and services, as well as a solid understanding of media ingestion and encoding, backend engineering principles, and media stack knowledge
 
Nice-to-have Skills:
  1. Former media companies would be a plus
  2. Needs to be flexible, proactive, and work independently
Job Responsibilities:
  • Debug complex systems, including those related to media ingestion, to identify and fix issues that impact performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Implement best practices for operational excellence, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and alerting systems to detect issues before they become critical, ensuring prompt resolution and minimizing downtime.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, communicating technical information effectively to resolve issues and improve processes.
  • Effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that all parties understand the nature of issues and the steps being taken to resolve them.
  • Design and develop media full stack and backend systems, utilizing PHP, React, and C++ programming languages.
  • Collaborate with media engineers to optimize media ingestion and encoding processes, improving overall system performance and user experience.
  • Troubleshoot issues and make system changes as needed to resolve issues specifically in the media stack.

  • Verbal and written communication skills, problem-solving skills, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage one's time.
  • Basic mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
  • Knowledge of the full software development lifecycle: from business/systems analysis, through requirements gathering and functional specification authoring, to development, testing, and delivery.
  • Strong understanding of media ingestion and encoding, backend engineering principles, and media stack knowledge.
  • Proficiency in PHP, React, and C++ programming languages.
  • Experience with media full stack and backend development, including design, implementation, and maintenance of complex software systems.
 
Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or relevant field required.
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on media full stack and backend development.
  • Media stack experience (ingestion and encoding) and familiarity with encoding formats Av1, HVEC is highly desirable.
 
Story Behind the Need – Business Group & Key Projects
Key Projects/Day-to-Day Responsibilities
  • Working closely with the senior engineer on the team to identify areas of root cause and will assign out bug/performance improvement task
  • Will be independent of owning their stack tasks, writing code, and suggesting improvements
  • Needs to be flexible, proactive, and work independently

Years of Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience in software engineering, with a focus on media full stack and backend development
 
Degrees/Certifications Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering or relevant field required
 
Difficult Aspects of Job
  • Biggest challenge will be the fast pace of the role and dealing with escalations.
  • Will be stepping into a stack so they will have to jump in with minimal support
How many rounds of interviews?
  • 2 rounds, one with CWAM and second round with a coder pad
